Caterina Valente was born on January 14, 1931, in Paris. She performed in the circus ring with her siblings from the age of five. Her first vocal recordings were made for Radio Zurich and Südwestfunk (Southwest German Radio). She released her first record, "Istanbul," in 1955. In the 1950s, Caterina Valente was the most successful singer in Germany. Her song "Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe" (All of Paris Dreams of Love, 1954) alone sold over 900,000 copies in Germany. Besides her German hits, she also recorded many jazz tracks, including collaborations with Chet Baker and Ella Fitzgerald. She was also very successful as a film actress in Germany
