Theodorakis, Mikis & Maria Farantouri
The Birthday Concert '95
On 29 July 1995, Greek composer, conductor and cosmopolitan Mikis Theodorakis turned 70 and celebrated his birthday on 11 May with a magnificent concert at the Philharmonie in Munich's Gasteig. He was accompanied by Maria Farantouri, known worldwide as the ideal interpreter of his songs, renowned bouzouki player Lakis Karnezis and a band of nine other musicians. This celebration of contemporary Greek song was also one of the few concerts at which Theodorakis himself sang his own songs. He sang Agapi mou, which was made famous by Melina Mercouri. Other songs to be heard include Sotiris Petroulas, Pou petaxe to Agori mou, 18 November & To GElasto Paidi and many more.
