Smoke, The
The Smoke
The Smoke is the sole rare album by the American band The Smoke. Released in 1968 at the height of the psychedelic era, the album blends sunshine and baroque pop and psychedelic experimentation into a cohesive, almost conceptual listening experience. The album features lush orchestrations with strings, brass, and harpsichord, layered vocal harmonies, and frequent use of brief interludes and spoken or instrumental fragments. Rather than a traditional band performance, it feels like a carefully arranged pop-psych suite, notable for its imaginative production, rich sonic detail, and slightly theatrical, dreamlike atmosphere.
