Maria Skanselid invites you into her secret creative world.; her ingenious songs would finally find their place on an album. The album is also her debut record, which has landed in the borderland between folk songs and jazz, bearing the double-meaning title VILL. In Swedish, "vill" can mean both to want and to be lost. Maria traces her path to songwriting back to childhood, when she would sit in the back seat of the family Volvo, weaving together words and melodies in her mind. Through classical cello studies, choir singing, and playing in various bands, she eventually found her way to the Scandinavian visa tradition. The beauty of a "visa" is that it belongs to itself. Every song can take on different shapes depending on who performs it. Theres something generous about that tradition. Across its nine tracks, the album explores everyday life and different ways of seeing both life itself and our place within it.
