Algernon Cadwallader
Some Kind Of Wallader (pink/green Swirl)
Released in 2008, Some Kind of Cadwallader is the debut album of Pennsylvania's Algernon Cadwallader. This record is widely celebrated as a spark for the late-2000s Midwest emo revival, pairing the nostalgic emo genre with highly technical mathrock musicianship. Rather than following the polished sound of mainstream rock at the time, Some Kind of Cadwallader captures the raw, energetic atmosphere of a DIY basement show. Over the course of a sevenyear run, Algernon Cadwallader released two studio albums, a pair of EPs, and several other recordings. The group eventually disbanded in 2012. Despite their breakup, the band's influence and fanbase only grew, and in 2018, they re-issued their albums to digital streaming services for the first time. This garnered public attention, with Pitchfork giving the reissued debut album an 8.3 out of 10, saying "Some Kind of Cadwallader still leaps out of the speakers, an album that treats its songs like secrets they're dying to share."
