Tiento: The Soul Of The Spanish Organ
The Iberian tiento is both experiment and devotion, suspended between ricercare and toccata, discipline and fantasy. In this programme Maurizio Maffezzoli, with Michael Guastalla, Luca Buzzavi, Enrico Fazzi and Elisabetta Pallucchi, guides us through a centuries-long tradition: from Cabezons Marian intabulations and Arauxos Facultad organica to Pablo Brunas Eucharistic works, before arriving at Francis Chapelets late-Romantic prism and Felipe Adrian Rojeros new Laudate Dominum. Voices and organ alternate verses, chorales and glosas, shaping a ritual that feels both ancient and living. Colours shift from reed solemnity to luminous flutes, from austere counterpoint to dancing triple meters. This recording is a vibrant map of Iberian spirituality, where the tiento continues to test hands, ears, and hearts across five centuries.
