Schrottgrenze

Das Universum Ist Nich Binar

Emo-German punk in the nineties, indie rock experiments in the 2000s and now at home in queer power pop: SCHROTTGRENZE synthesizers, orchestral arrangements and classical choirs - the musical journey that lies behind the former punk band from Peine in Lower Saxony is amazing. "We have never depended on the music industry, a particular scene or commercial claims to success and have always followed our common thematic and musical preferences," explains singer* Saskia Lavaux, who founded SCHROTTGRENZE in 1994 together with guitarist Timo Sauer. Bassist Hauke Roh and drummer Lars Watermann complete the quartet, which has been based in Hamburg for 20 years. When the band celebrated its comeback in 2017 - after a break of several years - with the album "Glitter on Concrete", the claim to their own musical independence became particularly clear. "That's when the queer trilogy started, which we continued in 2019 with "Alles Zerpflucken" and now round off with "Das Universum ist nicht binr" (The universe is not binary)," summarises Saskia, who meanwhile looks back on her very personal queer transformation. The aforementioned three records, which clearly mark a new SCHROTTGRENZE era, were all produced together with Kristian KWhat is new, however, is the collaboration with Oliver Zuelch who has supported bands like Die Arzte, Sportfreunde Stiller and The Notwist in the past. The result: a new, clear and empowering sound that suits the independent band collective very well.
