Jardin Au Fou

One of the most remarkable albums from the so-called Krautrock environment is "Jardin au Fou" by Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Cluster, Harmonia), released in 1979. Remarkable because it has nothing whatsoever to do with what was imagined at the time as avant-garde electronics or even Krautrock. Roedelius takes great pleasure in setting a merry-go-round of fairground organs, popping bottle corks, waltzes and sweet melodies in motion. Rhythm machines, sequencers and abstract sounds are almost completely absent. The result is one of the most beautiful, graceful, rapturous and peaceful albums in German rock history. Jardin au Fou" was produced by Peter Baumann, shortly after he left Tangerine Dream. The French record label EGG had commissioned him with three productions from the German avant-garde scene: albums by Konrad Schnitzler, Asmus Tietchens and "Jardin au Fou" by Roedelius.
