Riesco, Marcel
Wild Kisses (10")
I have been collecting and producing records for decades. I have see trends come and go. I have heard it all, you might say. Every once in a while, someone come along who catches your ears, grabs your attention, and stand out from the crowd. Marcel Riesco is one of the few that never fails to amaze me. I have always been a fan of Roy Orbison, and Riesco's voice has often been compared to the Big O's. Marcel excels at the Sun-era Orbison sound. On Wild Kisses, Marcel Riesco proves he can also expertly handle the more complex arrangements and demanding vocals of Roy's early Monument phase. Just listen to Riesco's beautiful composition "Why Can't We Just Make Up" But Marcel Riesco is no copycat. He sucessfully developed his niche in a sea of soundlikes. His style is infectious, danceable, and melodious, effortlessly switching from innocent teen bop like the album's tittle track to sheer drama in "(Why You) I Had It All." Piano and saxophone augment the rockingrhythm of the obligatory slap bass and guitar arrangements on the exciting collection of songs. I very much enjoy Marcel Riesco's new album WILD KISSES, and I know you will, too. Give this record a spin - you will dig it." Sincerely - RICHARD WEIZE - Founder of Bear Family Records
