HYL defines himself as a blend of chanson and new-wave rap, pop, and vibrant electro. His lyrics paint melodies in the vein of Orelsan, Gaël Faye, L'Or du Commun, or Grand Corps Malade, poised between carefree abandon and profound awareness. HYL embodies the tears of a smile, hope amidst disillusionment, and the contradictions of bipolar emotions. He enjoys writing about adolescence, like a child trapped in a body too big for him. His playground was already the stage 15 years ago: hard rock, funk, jazz/groove, several bands before rebranding himself with three letters. This eclectic journey has left its mark on his music, which he envisions as a drawing.
