Miniaturas Contemporâneas Para Braguinhas
In Miniaturas Contemporâneas para Braguinhas the braguinha, Madeiras small chordophone with a crystalline soprano voice, is released from ethnographic enclosure and offered as a laboratory of the present. Alongside pieces by island composers, new commissions bring the instrument into contact with outside perspectives, invited to test its tuning and gesture, at times in dialogue with the guitar, its historical companion. The deliberately brief form concentrates invention: imitative traces, echo-like figuration, resonance games, flashes of virtuosity, and dancing shadows of the bailinho. Beneath it lies a migrating memory: the braguinha that in 1879 helped give birth to the ukulele speaks again, now in a renewed idiom.
