Coste: Complete Guitar Works Vol. 7: Pièces De Concerti
Volume VII of Napolon Costes Complete Guitar Works, Pièces de concert II, gathers some of his most ambitious pages, forged in the Parisian climate where the guitar claimed a dignity equal to large form. At the centre stand the works linked to Makaroffs 1856 competition: from the expansive, changeful Fantaisie Symphonique op. 28b to the Grande Srnade op. 30, where theatrical gesture and thematic construction pursue one another. La Chasse des Sylphes op. 29 turns Romantic imagery into instrumental narrative/ La Ronde de Mai op. 42 closes with a divertissement that keeps salon elegance without relinquishing harmonic density. A poetics of virtuosity as architecture emerges, where cantabile and invention move together. In the background, the heptachord, the timbral horizon conceived with Lacôte, widens both palette and perspective.
