Barthel, Anna-karina/ Carlotta Ribbe
Who Am I
"Who Am I" is the debut album by Anna-Karina Barthel (vocals) and Carlotta Ribbe (vibraphone), recorded at Folkwang Studios Essen not as a live recording, but deliberately in the studio. The duo, known for their subtle live interaction, forgoes audience and applause here, yet maintains their intense musical connection. Since 2022, Barthel and Ribbe have delighted listeners with a mix of original compositions and newly arranged jazz and pop standards. The title track, "Who Am I," and Ribbe's "Osmotic Coffee Grounds" demonstrate their compositional signature melancholic, sound-painting, and full of emotion. They also interpret classics such as "guas de Março," "I Say A Little Prayer," and "The Peacocks" independently and with great expressiveness. Vocals and vibraphone merge into equal narrative voices. They have received numerous awards for their artistic work, including the Jazz Prize of the City of Halle. Their album is a sonically dense, emotionally diverse journey in which music becomes a conversation an impressive promise for the future.
