Rings, The

I Wanne Be Free (10") (yellow)

Yellow vinyl version! This record is a very rare document to add to the legacy of The Rings, a short-lived Garage/Punk Rock band at the height of the Punk explosion in London 1977. These recordings were made on a Phillips hand held microphone cassette recorder in May 1977 in an apartment/rehearsal space at Saltram Crescent London W9 by Alan Lee Shaw guitarist/songwriter of The Rings. These recordings were made at the behest of Ted Carroll head of Chiswick records, in order to hear material that would in turn feature as a one-off single on the Chiswick label. The band members on these recordings are the original line up of Twink (Lead vocal) Alan Lee Shaw (Guitar /Vocals/Songwriter) Rod Latter (Drums) Dennis Stow (Bass). The two Alan Lee Shaw songs selected from these recordings were re-recorded by the Rings for the seminal single I Wanna be Free/Automobile Chiswick records S14. Due to musical differences the band split shortly afterwards leaving Alan Lee Shaw to form the full on Punk Rock band The Maniacs in the summer of 1977 taking with him Rod Latter and at the time newly acquired Rings Bass player Robert Crash.
