6 - CANNON, FREDDY - PALISADES PARK - (LP)
RUMBLE

Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon -as he became known for the trademark pounding drums and pulsating rhythm of his singles- was a Massachusetts native who became a star on the local Boston scene in the late '50s before being "discovered" by the late, great, Dick Clark who got him signed to Philadelphia's Swan Records. Following a string of fairly successful singles, Cannon really hit the big-time with his 1962 classic, 'Palisades Park', the title track of this very album. A tribute to the famous New Jersey amusement park, this classic early '60s rocker was penned by none other than Chuck Berry. As the music critic and legendary rocker, Cub Koda once wrote "Freddy Cannon was a true believer, a rocker to the bone." You need no further evidence of that than this classic LP.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Palisades Park 02. Transistor Sister 03. Buzz Buzz A-diddle-it 04. The Merry-go-round Broke Down 05. Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini 06. Medley:meet Me In St.louis/take Me Out To The Ballgame/in The Good Old Sumertime 07. Forever True 08. For Me And My Gal 09. Teen Queen Of The Week 10. Summer's Comin' 11. Splish Splash 12. June, July, And August

9 - CHARLES, BOBBY - SEE YOU LATER, ALLIGATOR - (LP)
RUMBLE

Bobby Charles (born Robert Charles Guidry in Cajun country, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana) had his life change forever when, at the age of 15, he first heard Fats Domino on the radio. Soon after that Charles was helping to fortify the "swamp pop" sound he became famous for - penning this collections legendary title track, as well as writing massive hits for Domino, Bill Haley, and Clarence "Frogman" Henry. In addition to writing and recording dozens of '60s Louisiana R&B and swamp pop classics, Charles would brush elbows with other NOLA legends like Allen Toussaint, and Dr. John, record an album in the early '70s with members of The Band for Albert Grossman's Bearsville label, and perform at The Band's legendary farewell concert, 'The Last Waltz'. That said, nothing he ever did matches the sheer, pure, raw rock & roll power of those late '50s and early '60s sides, which are presented here.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Later Alligator (see You Later, Alligator) 02. On Bended Knee 03. Why Did You Leave 04. Don't You Know I Love You (you Know I Love You) 05. Time Will Tell 06. Take It Easy, Greasy 07. Laura Lee 08. No Use Knocking 09. Why Can't You 10. Put Your Arms Around Me Honey 11. You Can Suit Yourself 12. I Ain't Gonna Love You) No More 13. One Eyed Jack 14. Yea Yea Baby

10 - COASTERS, THE - ONE BY ONE - (LP)
RUMBLE

The Coasters 1960 "meet-the-band" LP wherein the singers are presented not as a group but as individual soloists, represented a complete departure from what the Coasters rose to fame for. If the previous material was marked musically by its rock and roll teen-age based orientation and a by a deeply satirical approach to the lyrics, this album is notable for his musical maturity instead, with swingin, jazz-inspired arrangements brought by a full complement of musicians and an expensive production, resulting in a Coasters album that appealed not only to the youthful fan-base, but to adults of a more cultivated and advanced musical taste.

TRACKLISTING: 01. But Beautiful 02. Satin Doll 03. Gee Baby Aint I Good To You 04. Autumn Leaves 05. Youd Be So Nice To Come Home To 06. Moonlight In Vermont 07. Moonglow 08. Easy Living 09. The Way You Look Tonight 10. Dont Get Around Much Anymore 11. Willow Weep For Me 12. On The Sunny Side Of The Street.

11 - COCHRAN, EDDIE - SINGIN' TO MY BABY - (LP)
RUMBLE

140 gram LP. Singin To My Baby is Eddie "Summertime Blues" Cochrans first LP, originally released in 1958, just two years before he was tragically killed in a car accident (rockabilly king Gene Vincent was also in the car, but lived) at the age of 21, while touring the UK. Despite his early death, Cochran left a lasting mark on rock & roll history. The epitome of the fifties rebel rocker, and also, as music journalist Bruce Eder so rightfully put it, "rocks first high-energy guitar hero, the forerunner to Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Duane Allman and, at least in terms of dexterity, Jimi Hendrix". His influence was felt on everyone from the Beatles, to Blue Cheer, to the Sex Pistols (who covered Cochrans "Something Else"). Although "Summertime Blues" was his biggest hit, becoming an anthem for teen rebellion and disenchantment with the status quo, many of his songs were along this vein, making him a hero to generations of disgruntled teens.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Sittin In The Balcony 02. Completely Sweet 03. Undying Love 04. Im Alone Because I Love You 05. Lovin Time 06. Proud Of You 07. Am I Blue 08. Twenty Flight Rock 09. Drive In Show 10. Mean When Im Mad 11. Stockins "n" Shoes 12. Tell Me Why 13. Have I Told You Lately That I Love You 14. Cradle Baby 15. One Kiss

12 - COLLINS, TOMMY - THIS IS TOMMY COLLINS - (LP)
RUMBLE

Though he may not be as big a name as Buck Owens or Merle Haggard, Tommy Collins was as instrumental as either of those two legends in formulating what is known as the Bakersfield Sound. In fact, the Oklahoma native was the first of the Bakersfield aritsts to reach prominence in the music industry with his second single in 1954, during which time a young Buck Owens played guitar in Tommy's band. 'This Is Tommy Collins' is his third and finest LP, a fine example of Bakersfield's hard honky-tonk sound, the perfect antidote to the pap that was coming out of Nashville at that time. A set of hard driving country music from Bakersfield's finest, brought back to life on vinyl!

TRACKLISTING: 01. You Better No Do That 02. I Always Get A Souvenir 03. United 04. How Do I Say Goodbye 05. I'll Be Gone 06. It Tickles 07. You Gotta Have A License 08. High On A Hilltop 09. Boob-i-lak 10. Smooth Salin' 11. Love-a-me S'il Vous Plait 12. What'cha Gonna Do Now?

13 - CORTEZ, DAVE "BABY" - RINKY-DINK - (LP)
RUMBLE

Detroit native David Cortez Clowney, known by the stage name Dave "Baby" Cortez, scored his second Top 10 hit in 1962 with the all-time classic R&B instrumental 'Rinky-Dink'. Released the same year on Chicago's legendary Chess Records, the album of the same name is a tasty collection of the organ fueled instrumentals that Cortez was known for. Cortez had probably the greatest run of instrumental pop hits in the late '50s and early '60s, and 'Rinky-Dink' is his greatest album. Now it's back in print on LP for the first time in more than 50 years.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Rinky-dink 02. Gettin' Right 03. Skins And Sounds 04. Jammin' Part 1 05. Jammin' Part 2 06. Little Paris Melody 07. Wobble Part 1 08. Wobble Part 2 09. Mr. Gee 10. Davy's Schuffle 11. Lost Love

RUMBLE

Originally released in 1962, Twist Uptown, is the first LP from The Crystals, released on the heels of their singles chart successes with "Uptown" and "There's No Other (Like My Baby)". Produced by Phil Spector and featuring numerous tunes from the legendary Brill Building team of Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, Twist Uptown is the epitome of the early 60s teenage sound. The LP also includes the original version of "On Broadway" which would be a massive hit for The Drifters the following year. Essential 60s American pop R&B from the master.

16 - DIDDLEY, BO - BO DIDDLEY'S A TWISTER - (LP)
RUMBLE

Elias Otha Bates, known to the world as Bo Diddley, was one of the most influential guitarists in the history of American popular music. Without Diddley, it could be argued, you would not have Jimi Hendrix, or The Rolling Stones, or even Buddy Holly - whose "Not Fade Away" was a clear and obvious nod to the Bo Diddley beat. Originally released on Checker in 1962, Bo Diddleys A Twister, was one of THREE albums released by Diddley in that year alone. Truly one of the hardest working men in show business, his productivity did not do anything to dilute his sound, and the classics here include "Detour", "Road Runner", and "Here Tis" which The Yardbirds would cover extensively live, but never match the power of the original. Another Bo Diddley classic on RUMBLE!

TRACKLISTING: 01. Detour 02. She's Alright 03. Doin' The Jaguar 04. Who Do You Love 05. Shank 06. Road Runner 07. My Babe 08. The Twister 09. Hey, Bo Diddley 10. Hush Your Mouth 11. Bo Diddley 12. I'm Looking For A Woman 13. Here 'tis 14. I Know

17 - DIDDLEY, BO - GO BO DIDDLEY - (LP)
RUMBLE

His second 1959 long-play effort only adds a go to his classic debut, refining his trademark square guitar and crazy-distorted amplification to create new sounds (anticipating the innovations of 60s rock icons like Jimi Hendrix) and his rumba-sounding, hambone-styled Bo Diddley beat.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Crackin Up 02. Im Sorry 03. Bos Guitar 04. Willia And Lillie 05. You Dont Love Me (you Dont Care) 06. Say Man 07. The Great Grandfather 08. Oh Yeah 09. Dont Let It Go 10. Little Girl 11. Dearest Darling 12. The Clock Strikes Twelve

18 - DIDDLEY, BO - IN THE SPOTLIGHT - (LP)
RUMBLE

One of the essential names of the early rock and roll era, inventor of that "Bo Diddley beat" -- bomp, ba-bomp-bomp, bomp-bomp -- that became one of rock & rolls bedrock rhythms - showing up in the work of Buddy Holly, the Rolling Stones, and the Who to name but a few - Bo Diddley pushed rock and roll to its funkiest extreme. Mostly known for the hot and raunchy hit "Road Runner", Bos fourth album from 1960 hides more than a few suprises: from the Caribbean-sounding "Limber", to the doo wop-style "Deed and Deed I Do", or the solid instrumental "Scuttle Bug", this is an unmissable chapter in Bos early career.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Road Runner 02. Story Of Bo Diddley 03. Scuttle Bug 04. Signifying Blues 05. Let Me In 06. Limber 07. Love Me 08. Craw-dad 09. Walkin And Talkin 10. Travellin West 11. Deed And Deed I Do 12. Live My Life

19 - DIDDLEY, BO - IS A LOVER - (LP)
RUMBLE

Unlike a lot of other rock n roll stars who had gotten their start in the 1950s, Bo Diddley kept going strong into the 1960s and even the early 1970s for that matter. Bos sixth album from 1961 clearly prefigures most of his 60s output, while still keeping that classic rock n roll feel he had been one of the pioneers of, and probably its most original interpreter. From the flamenco-inspired instrumental "Aztec", to the two briskly-paced rockers, "Hong Kong, Mississippi" and "Youre Looking Good", or the goofy spoken word "Bos Vacation", Is A Lover demonstrates what a huge influence the man was not only on British rock bands from the mid-1960s but what is commonly described as the "San Francisco Sound" as well. Another indispensable title from the man with the funny-shaped guitars!

TRACKLISTING: 01. Not Guilty 02. Hong Kong Mississippi 03. You're Looking Good 04. Bos Vacation 05. Congo 06. Bos Blues 07. Moon Baby 08. Bo Diddley Is A Lover 09. Aztec 10. Back Home 11. Bo Diddley Is Loose 12. Love Is A Secret 13. Quick Draw 14. Sick And Tired

Originally released in 1956 on the Imperial label and collecting both old and new chart-smashers, most of which were co-written with Dave Bartolomew, This is Fats Domino explains the legendary role Antoine Domino had, and still has, in New Orleans' popular culture. "Blueberry Hill", "Rockin' And Reeling", "The Fat Man's Hop"... this is the soundtrack to a trip to Bourbon Street. RUMBLE

Possibly the most iconic LP of their entire career, The Everly Brothers' 1958 S/T album feature all-time quintessential jams like "Wake Up, Little Susie", "Bye Bye Love", and "I Wonder If I Care As Much". Shockingly, as the legend goes, "Bye Bye Love" was rejected by more than 30 singers and groups before the Everlys agreed to record it, and the rest is history. Yet another required piece of early rock and roll from Rumble.

22 - FABIAN - HOLD THAT TIGER! - (LP)
RUMBLE

Introduced into the music business by Frankie Avalon at a time when record producers were looking to the South Philadelphia neighborhoods in search of teenage talents with good looks, Fabian Forte mainly began singing as a way to support his family, due to his father's illness. Backed by songwriters Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, Fabian had soon released a series of hit singles on Chancellor Records, while his debut album Hold That Tiger! climbed to #5 on the US charts. Although never the greatest of singers (he would find greater success as an actor), during the late 50's Fabian was projected as something of a teen idol, helped by a string of hits and numerous appearances on American television.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Tiger Rag 02. Hold Me (in Your Arms) 03. Ooh, What You Do! 04. I Don't Know Why 05. Please Don't Stop 06. Lovesick 07. Gonna Get You 08. Love Me Love My Tiger 09. Don't You Think It's Time? 10. Just One More Time 11. Cuddle Up A Little Closer 12. Steady Date 13. Turn Me Loose

23 - FRANKLIN, ARETHA - THE GOSPEL SOUL OF ARETHA FRANKLIN - (LP)
RUMBLE

Recorded at the age of 14, in 1956, under the direction of her father, Reverend C.L. Franklin, these gospel recordings of a teenage Aretha Franklin are not just a sign of the brilliance to come, they are a force unto themselves. At this time Aretha was performing in her father's church, New Bethel, in Detroit, and traveling with her father's "gospel caravan" tours, performing with the likes of Sam Cooke & The Soul Stirrers. Like so many of the soul and R&B stars of the '50s and '60s, Aretha started out in the church and it was there that she made some of her most powerful and transcendental music.

TRACKLISTING: 01. There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood 02. Precious Lord (part One) 03. Precious Lord (part Two) 04. You Grow Closer 05. Never Grow Old 06. The Day Is Past And Gone 07. He Will Wash You White As Snow 08. While The Blood Runs Warm 09. Yield Not To Temptation

24 - FRANKLIN, ARETHA - THE TENDER, THE MOVING, THE SWINGING... - (LP)
RUMBLE

It's a common misconception that the late legend of soul, Aretha Franklin, didn't cut a good record until she got out from under her Columbia Records contract and began recording with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (aka The Swampers) for Atlantic Records. While those Atlantic sides are some of the greatest deep Southern soul ever recorded, there's a lot to love about her earlier recordings. Yes, there is much more of a pop R&B vibe to them with swinging arrangements and large horn and string sections but that unique and perfect voice is still there, here piano playing is gorgeous, and there are some serious Northern Soul burners in the bunch. The Tender, The Moving, The Swinging Aretha Franklin, from 1962, features some beautiful ballads and killer floor fillers and will please any fan of early '60s soul and R&B.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Don't Cry, Baby 02. Try A Little Tenderness 03. I Apologize 04. Without The One You Love 05. Look For The Silver Lining 06. I'm Sitting On Top Of The World 07. Just For A Thrill 08. God Bless The Child 09. I'm Wandering 10. How Deep Is The Ocean 11. I Don't Know You Anymore 12. Lover Come Back To Me

26 - GAINSBOURG, SERGE - DU JAZZ DANS LE RAVIN - (LP)
RUMBLE

Gainsbourg, the original bad boy of French pop, the man who updated the French chanson and made it hip again infusing it with the youth culture of the late 50s and 60s, ruled by jazz, drugs and free love. Very different from his celebrated later works, the music captured on this vinyl edition finds Gainsbourg mixing traditional chanson and big-band jazz rather than the avant garde pop that went on to define his career outside of France. This record presents a revealing insight into the early years of this iconic figure.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Le Claqueur De Doigts 02. La Nuit D'octobre 03. Adieu Crature 04. L'anthracite 05. Mambo Miam Miam 06. Indiffrente 07. Jeunes Femmes Et Vieux Messieurs 08. L'amour A La Papa 09. Du Jazz Dans Le Ravin 10. Douze Belles Dans La Peau 11. La Recette De L'amour Fou 12. La Femme Des Uns Sous Le Corps Des Autres 13. Le Poinonneur Des Lilas 14. Ce Mortel Ennui 15. La Jambe De Bois 16. L'eau A La Bouche 17. Angoisse 18. Black March

29 - GAYE, MARVIN - THE SOULFUL MOODS OF... - (LP)
RUMBLE

The very first album by one the greatest and most influential singers in the fields of Soul and R&B came out in 1961 on the Motown label and sees Marvin singing, playing drums, and piano on an album of mainly rearranged jazz and pop standards, inspired by his passion for Nat King Cole and Ray Charles. Though this is not Gaye with a fully developed style, and it is hardly the innovative legend of Let's Get It On or What's Going On this is still top notch jazzy-soul that reveals traces of what would soon become a legend. The studio musicians come up with nice arrangements of the material, sometimes even with hints of the punch they would bring to his later, chart-topping material. Though a little before Marvin got his 'groove on', this is still the first of four albums of jazz covers he recorded and an important look at the early days of the Motown-sound. ??
