2163 - MODEST PROPOSAL/THE MONDAYS! - LONG TIME AGO - (CD)
PAISLEY ARCHIVE

The 80s mod scene wasnt just confined to the UK. Pockets of bands and like-minded fans dotted up all over the globe, nowhere more so than the USA.Based in Washington DC Modest Proposal soon built up a strong loyal following resulting in the release of their debut single "Ive Seen Your Face Before" / "Nobody Says No". This caught the eye of Unicorn Records who not only included the band on a Phase III EP and compilation album but also gave the band their own album, the awesome Single Minded. A gig at the famous 100 Club supporting 'The Times' was also a highlight during this period.Sadly it wasnt to last and with the scene in decline MP called it a day.Not to be deterred lead singer Neal Augenstein and guitarist Bill Crandall were soon back on the road with newly formed 'The Mondays!' Unicorn Records again soon came knocking and the catchy 4 track 12 inch Fortune & Glory was released. This should have been the start of something big but with the scene now gone completely underground the band felt they had no option but to down instruments. Here we have all recorded material by both bands as well as a previously unreleased bonus MP track. It might have been A Long Time Ago but the tracks still sound as powerful and fresh today as they did back then, so, do yourself a favour and get this on your to buy list. You wont be disappointed.

2166 - MODS - REACTIONS - (LP)
UGLY POP

Among cognoscenti of the era, this Toronto unit are known for one of the great lost singles of early Canadian punk. As great as 1978's 'Step Out Tonight' 45 was, however, there was much more where that came from. Filtering the clear inspiration of mid '60s Who and Kinks through the aggressive delivery of such contemporaries as The Jam and The Clash, The Mods honed their attack into an unstoppable rush, hard-edged but melodic, and began working on a planned major label LP that never did materialise. This Ugly Pop LP includes the single and highlights of the aborted album session; hyperbole aside, it's an astonishingly good record, and one of the best Ugly Pop ever released. Printed inner sleeve with new liners and rare pictures inside.

2172 - MOEBIUS - MUSIK FUER METROPOLIS - (CD)
BUREAU B

Dieter Moebius (1944-2015) was one of the most important protagonists of avant-garde electronic music in Germany. He was founder member of Kluster/Cluster (with Conrad Schnitzer and Hans-Joachim Roedelius) and Harmonia (with Michael Rother and Hans-Joachim Roedelius) and worked together with several artists such as Brian Eno, Conny Plank, Mayo Thompson, Hellmut Hattler, Asmus Tietchens, Mani Neumeier, Arno Steffen, Juergen Engler, Jean Herv Peron, Zappi Diermaier, and Chris Karrer. In 2012 Dieter Moebius was invited to perform music to Fritz Langs legendary silent film "Metropolis". For this purpose he produced pre-arranged tracks and samples to be treated with effects and combined during live improvisation according to the dramaturgical setting of the film. His impressive work reveals its full power and depth in combination with the images from the film.It was his plan to create an album-length version of this music for release. Unfortunately, Dieter Moebius passed away on July 20, 2015 and was not able to complete the project. With the help and support of Dieter Moebius widow Irene and two longtime musical partners, Tim Story and Jon Leidecker, the Berlin musician Jonas Foerster finished the remaining work and completed the production.

2175 - MOEBIUS & BEERBOHM - DOUBLE CUT - (LP)
BUREAU B

In 1984, two years after their first album collaboration, "Strange Music", Dieter Moebius and Gerd Beerbohm issued their second LP, "Double Cut". It bore the same distinctive hallmarks as its predecessor, but this time around, the two musicians had simplified matters significantly. This was not simplification due to a lack of inspiration, however, but a masterful concentration on what really counts in pop music: rhythm. The musician: Dieter Moebius is one of the most important protagonists of avant-garde electronic music in Germany. Alongside his bands Kluster/Cluster and Harmonia, he participated in numerous collaborations (with the likes of Brian Eno and Mani Neumeier/Guru Guru). He recorded two albumswith the bass player Gerd Beerbohm in 1982 and 1983; "Double Cut" was the second. What became of Beerbohm sadly remains a mystery. The music: electronic avant-garde pop in its most rigorous form. Both LPs are important paradigms of so-called proto-techno. Liner notes by Asmus Tietchens.

2176 - MOEBIUS & BEERBOHM - STRANGE MUSIC - (LP)
BUREAU B

"Strange Music" - unimaginative as it may first appear (!), the title speaks volumes about where Moebius was coming from, artistically speaking. Moebius is a master of perspicuity, without ever oversimplifying or lapsing into banalization. Instead, he uncovers the rich variety inherent in the detail of minor variations. Moebius principles of pop music are drawn from three sources: the uncomplicated minimalism of the late 1960s, archaising, instrumental rocknroll of the late 1950s and improvisation. Working with Gerd Beerbohm saw him combine these elements to create an exact representation of his understanding of contemporary pop music.

2177 - MOEBIUS & PLANK - EN ROUTE - (LP)
BUREAU B

Dieter Moebius is a renowned experimental Krautrock / electronic musician (Cluster, Harmonia), Conny Plank is a legendary sound engineer. They recorded five albums together, the last one being "En Route" (recorded 1986, released 1995). It transports us to Moebius and Plank's customarily audacious, bizarre, wonderful and definitively unique world of sound, noise and rhythm. "En Route" is hip electronic music, yet it steers well clear of the mainstream. Includes three remixes by Manu Guiot

2178 - MOEBIUS & PLANK - RASTAKRAUT PASTA - (LP)
BUREAU B

On Rastakraut Pasta, drums, electric guitars and bass are the cornerstones of every track; they provide the framework to which Moebius adds fresh colour and life with his synthesizers. Thanks to the technical merits of Planks studio, the keyboards sound barely distinguishable from one another. No samples, strictly analogue from start to finish. Holger Czukay (Can) plays bass on three pieces and his consummate professionalism sees his virtuosity finely tuned to the concept of Moebius and Plank. Moebius has a predilection for surrealist cascades of noise, heard throughout the album, grotesque yet playful. An enigmatic form of pop music came into being on this LP, a breakneck, elegant mix of diverse elements: a touch of Krautrock, some avant-garde pop, new German electronica, even sporadic echoes of reggae.

TRACKLISTING: 01. News (4:52) 02. Rastakraut Pasta (6:16) 03. Feedback 66 (4:57) 04. Missi Cacadou (5:31) 05. Two Oldtimers (7:02) 06. Solar Plexus (4:54) 07. Landebahn (1:29)

2179 - MOEBIUS & RENZIEHAUSEN - ERSATZ - (CD)
BUREAU B

1990 sees Dieter Moebius enter new musical territory, cautiously reconnoitering the digital world. His companion on this excursion is Karl Renziehausen, a visual artist and constructor of sound sculptures. The two of them distance themselves sonically and musically from existing Moebius collaborations with Conny Plank and Gerd Beerbohm (almost all of which have been reissued on Bureau B); similarly, only sporadic echoes can be heard of Cluster and Harmonia, two projects whose style Moebius influenced significantly over a number of years. The music: surrealist, minimal / experimental electronics. "Adventures in sound, a world brought to life by the most remarkable characters and atmospheres." (Asmus Tietchens). Initially released on the Pinpoint label in 1990. Liner notes by Asmus Tietchens.

2181 - MOEBIUS & RENZIEHAUSEN - ERSATZ II - (CD)
BUREAU B

Two years after the release of "Ersatz" (1990), Moebius and Renziehausen issued "Ersatz 2" as the culmination of their ongoing studio collaboration. It is as meticulously crafted as "Ersatz", dipped in the same luminance and confounds with a similar wealth of musical ideas. And yet "Ersatz 2" does not simply carry on where "Ersatz" (1) left off. Moebius and Renziehausen composed and improvised quite intuitively on "Ersatz", emptying their music of messy ballast, yet adding decorous, delicate detail. This is even more true of "Ersatz 2", with the marked difference that the music has become even more transparent and the individual tracks shorter in length. The two sound artists reach an almost ascetic level with their unwavering concentration on musical substance and the deliberateness of their creative approach. The music: surrealist, minimal / experimental electronics. "Adventures in sound, a world brought to life by the most remarkable characters and atmospheres." (Asmus Tietchens). Initially released 1992 on the spanish Nova Era label. Liner notes by Asmus Tietchens.

2183 - MOEBIUS, DIETER - DING - (CD)
KLANGBAD

Brand new album by the krautrock / electronic pioneer Dieter Moebius (Cluster, Harmonia). ,Ding" appears in digipack format on Klangbad. In the past forty years DIETER MOEBIUS (i.e. as a part of the groups CLUSTER and HARMONIA) has shaped the development of electronic music quite decisive. Compared to the more friendly structures and arrangements on his previous album ,kram" the eleven tracks on ,Ding" are surprisingly thrilling and gripping: Displaced grooves and eerie sounds permeate the entire album from the slow-massive opener ,Walksol" to "Flink" with its nervous pulse; from the more spheric ,Alfred" to the complex ,Zufall" and up to the final abstractions ,Fou" and ,Ruston & Monotron". But for all this variation, the dramatic concept of DIETER MOEBIUS is called ,Linearity - one thing follows the other - song for song - event for event. This absence of ,increasing" and the repetitive stoicism mark this album. the clarity and the hypnotic power fascinate!

TRACKLISTING: 01. Walksol 02. Defekt 03. Flink 04. Alaise 05. Neue News 06. Alfred 07. Ding 08. Zufall 09. Bone 10. Fou 11. Ruston & Monotron

2184 - MOEBIUS, DIETER - DING - (CD)
BUREAU B

If Dieter Moebius previous album Kram was an irreverent mlange of bright synthetic textures, 2011s Ding might be considered Moebis industrial album. There is a cyclical, mechanical feel to many of the pieces here-but this is light industry, not heavy machinery. Small, discrete contraptions churn out curious objects as the listener strolls the factory floor, the combinations evolving as perspectives shift with each step taken. Moebi made extensive use of a relatively portable sample recorder/looper during the creation of Ding, and the freedom to capture random bits of sound in the natural (or unnatural) world must have been inspiring. These organic ambiences might have evoked a terrain that feels familiar, except of course that this is a Moebius album. Angular rhythms, disembodied voices, repeated loops of audio debris all combine to forge a facsimile of reality that is wonderfully peculiar. The earthy environments of Ding give it a remarkable depth of field, and Moebi masterfully allows a great deal of transparency in the mixes. The smallest of musical cues-the alternating, faraway chords which float through "Bone," for example-are sufficient to tie the seemingly disparate elements together into a satisfying, truly musical experience. The strands of natural, mechanical, and electronic sounds are so deftly juxtaposed that music never quite overwhelms noise, and the clamor is never allowed to stifle Dings strange poetry.Altogether, Ding feels like something of a small revelation-theres liberation in Moebis willful escape from a sound palette confined solely to his synthesizers. If the notion of manipulated, overlapping field recordings sounds dry and abstract, Ding is anything but. In places, the loping, syncopated pulses suggest the polyrhythms of African music, even funk-but its a state which never quite materializes because the rhythm loops are almost always trimmed slightly too long or too short, deliberately interrupting the "groove" that otherwise could have taken hold. So its music you might conceivably dance to, if your legs arent quite the same length. Mentally, its much easier to dance with Ding. Shot through with Moebis humor and extraordinary imagination, its provocative choreography of music and noise remains one of his most seductive

2185 - MOEBIUS, DIETER - DING - (LP)

2187 - MOEBIUS, DIETER - KRAM - (CD)
BUREAU B

Recorded in 2008, Krams playfully disjointed rhythms and shiny plastic surfaces give us just a glimpse perhaps of Moebis own state of mind-content, at ease, and happy to be working on music. With small mobile recording setups in Berlin and Majorca where he and Irene split their time, he recorded when the muse struck (although he would hate the word "muse"). In English, "kram" means "stuff" and the title is fitting. Synthetic, toy-like sounds skitter across the soundstage, colliding with those unlikely rhythms, and modulating in real time with Moebis unmistakable hand on the controls. Funny, warped, joyfully cluttered, Kram unapologetically embraces its disposable sounds and sly humor. Imbued throughout with his singular conception of music and sound, its arguably Moebius most cheerful and mis-chievous album, and its all the richer for it.Moebi was a champion of the everyday-self-effacing in both his life and his music. In Kram, he elevates the commonplace, then promptly subverts the touchstones which make it familiar. The lack of overt "emotionality" in his work sometimes obscures the humanity and depth thats always there, lurking behind the fabricated surfaces. Kram is a perfect example. Though he would be quick to dismiss it, the warmth of Moebis personality drifts indelibly through it. Tim Story

2189 - MOEBIUS, DIETER - NURTON - (CD)
BUREAU B

On the second album of his late solo work, the krautrock legend Dieter Moebius (+ 2015) searches for flaws and uses them as a creative impulse. As usual, he blithely ignores any mainstream expectations. On Nurton Moebius demonstrates his true greatness: From a seemingly arbitrary initial loop, he almost imperceptibly creates a hypnotic experimental atmosphere: linear, without escalation, stoic, with clarity and to a hypnotic effect. In doing so, Moebius uses bolder and more experimental lead sounds than on his previous solo album Blotch, from seven years prior. The sonic impression is more diverse and feels reconciled with the sounds of digital synthesis. Only the last track of the album, fittingly titled Das Letzte, provides a preview of the musical development that would characterize Moebius solo releases to follow.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Anfahrt (4:48) 02. Gaengig (3:54) 03. Mahalmal (4:49) 04. Born Neo (4:56) 05. Schleudergang (3:29) 06. Flag (4:39) 07. Opaque (4:17) 08. Snorkel (4:54) 09. Story (3:44) 10. Sad (4:40) 11. Warum? (3:32) 12. Moskito (3:01) 13. April (3:53) 14. Das Letzte (3:53)
