1621 - VARIOUS - RAKS RAKS RAKS - (LP)
FLOATING WORLD

'17 GOLDEN GARAGE PSYCH NUGGETS FROM THE IRANIAN 60S SCENE' - This is one of the most anticipated as well as unexpected compilations from the global depths of 60s and 70s rock'n'roll: The Persian scene. Let alone coming across with a representative compilation, even solid evidences of such a scene has not been seen until now and has been largely suspected, maybe save for a select few of eager garage and psychedelic record collectors and enthusiasts of worldwide rock, who have been trying to hunt such sounds on the internet and private collectors' circles, usually to no avail. Needless to say, the most important factor in this has been the obvious hideously rare status that Iran's pre-Revolution East-West cross cultural artefacts are in right now. As with almost all Asiatic countries, The Shadows and The Ventures seem to be the true and primal influence in the Iranian music scene of the most part of '60s for the rock sound and attitude to penetrate the country's fledgeling record industry and its swinging public base. In 1964, the legendary Top4 company opened up and started releasing choice chart hits from the worldwide lists, on 4-track EPs, followed soon by MonoGram and other companies. These mixed up records featured a lot of popular songs of the day, spanning the whole European continent i.e. including what's referred to now as 'Euro pop' hits and the 'big brothers', UK and US charts. The day's youth back then was lucky: they could follow the West moment by moment now. The foremost impact of these were to feature and spread British invaders, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, otherwise available only on radio.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Littles - Fatemah Sultan 02. Moha Jamin - Sheesh Va Hesht Moha Jamin 03. The Flowers - Meekshi Manoo 04. Littles - 4x8 Jadeed 05. Group Takhala La - Dokhtar-e Darya 06. Ojoobe Ha - Sartegar Nakesh Chen 07. Penahi - Dance Music 08. Moha Jamin - Ashk-e Roya E Bashkahe 09. The Golden Ring - Bar Ay Dokhtar Ha 10. Moha Jamin - Raks Raks Raks 11. The Rebels - Indian Rebels 12. Kourosh - Akhm Nakon 13. Googoosh - Respect 14. Group Saeed - Mosh Va Karnah 15. The Golden Ring - Shekar Dar Kohestan 16. Littles - Mehtaab 17. Shabah - I Need Somebody To Love

1640 - VARIOUS - REAL DEAL - (CD)
BOMB HIP-HOP

Bomb Hip-Hop Records owner David Paul is definitely the agent provocateur of the industry, and on The Real Deal he leverages his independent cred to create a compilation focused on how f*cked up the music industry is. The album features songs by Abstract Rude, Azeem, Foreign Legion, J-Zone and Swollen Members. This is a tongue-in-cheek revelation that shows the listener a behind the scenes view of the workings of the music industry, and how stars are elevated, manipulated, and deflated on a whim.

1644 - VARIOUS - RED BIRD STORY, VOL. 1 - (LP)
CHARLY

Founded in 1964 by esteemed songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Red Bird Records may only have been operational for three years, but during that time the label became synonymous with the 60s girl group sound, particularly due to the success of The Shangri-Las and The Dixie Cups - both of whom scored No.1 hits for Red Bird in its fledgling year. Rising Phoenix-like from earlier try-outs with Tiger (founded in 1962) and then Daisy (in 1963), Red Bird was unique among indie labels in that its output was of a consistently high standard and almost half of its releases made a commercial impact. The secret to Red Bird's 'Hit factory' lay in no small part with the chart-topping Brill Building songwriting team of Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, who had earlier penned hits for producer Phil Spector's Ronettes and Crystals.

1647 - VARIOUS - RED, WHITE & BLUE - WHICH ONE ARE YOU - (7")
PIRATES PRESS

Pinning Greater London vs. The Bay Area, this four-way double7" split truly highlights the best in todays global Oi! andStreetpunk scene. Whether its amidst the backdrop of an England football match or a Bay Area "soccer" match, with these four bands there are bound to be pints in hand, scarves in the air, rolled up jeans, big ol boots and songs like these blasting in the background! Theyre pub songs-songs you want to sing along with-songs about fighting, drinking, and loving your city and your friends... just louder, and with electric guitars. The difference is, unlike the stuff you hear on the radio made by those riding around in fancy tour buses, these blasters are played/sung/screamed by the hardworking guys laughing next to you at the bar, screaming next to you at the match, or having your back when things get out of hand at either of those places. Just like an old baseball bat (or cricket mallet) you keep in the trunk (boot) of your car, heres 28" that will hit you over the head and leave you wondering whats coming next...

TRACKLISTING: 01. Harrington Saints "slogans On The Wall" 02. The Old Firm Casuals "dmdp" * 03. Argy Bargy "no Good Reason" * 04. Booze & Glory "maybe" *

1649 - VARIOUS - REGGAE MUSIC 1969-1975 - (CD)
VOICE OF JAMAICA

The prestige, pre-eminence and, perhaps more importantly, the permanent influence of Jamaica on popular music the world over has been unparalleled and unprecedented and whether it is ska, rock steady, roots, dub raga, dancehall or basement, all music originating from Jamaica has been termed reggae."Do you know what reggae really is? Reggae is the same as rock steady but with the organ shuffle. Its the shuffle that kinda carried up the rock steady.....if you take out that you get rock steady! The organ shuffle kind a make it sound a little faster....the shuffling...plenty people a talk but they dont know. Reggae is the organ shuffle..." Bunny "Striker" LeeThe languid, laid back rock steady beat that reigned supreme in Kingstons dance halls for the previous two years started to speed up in the Autumn of 1968 as the faster, brasher reggae rhythms came to the fore. Many claimed to have originated the new beat...."All those singers used to like to listen to one another...anytime youd voice Slim Smith or Delroy Wilson then youd find Alton Ellis up at the studio listening to them.....every one of them was good in their own right" Bunny "Striker" LeeThe finer points of what is, and what is not, reggae are invariably lost on all but serious devotees of the music, however, pedantry should never stand in the way of appreciation. We would respectfully advise you to simply listen and enjoy...
