2 - WATSON, CHRIS - PROCESSED (BLUE TB7 SERIES) - (LP)    NEW
MOOG RECORDINGS LIBRARY

Chris Watson - originally the keyboard player of Cabaret Voltaire, then a sound recordist for Tyne Tees Television, and founder member of The Hafler Trio, but now perhaps best known for his BAFTA winning location recording for David Attenborough, Birdwatch, Tweet Of The Day and range of BBC Radio programmes. Here Chris creates an all new sound journey in honour of Bob Moog via a series of his own location recordings subtlety processed through The Moog Sound Lab's System 55. Almost a return to the principles that birthed Cabaret Voltaire's earliest experiments.

3 - WAYMON, SAM - GANJA & HESS - (LP)    UPDATED
STRANGE DISC

"Strange Disc Records proudly presents the original soundtrack to one of THE groundbreaking films of African American cinema, Ganja & Hess (1973).Ganja & Hess is a seminal work of African American cinema, flirting with the conventions ofblaxploitation and horror cinema, Bill Gunns revolutionary independent film is a highly stylized and utterly original treatise on sex, religion, and African American identity. Starring Duane Jones (Night Of The Living Dead) & Marlene Clark (Midnight Cowboy, Enter The Dragon) as the leading roles.Ganja & Hess was honored as one of the ten best American films of its decade by the Cannes Film Festival but was barely distributed to American audiences. Commissioned at a time when blaxploitation movies like Shaft played as blockbusters in African American neighborhoods, it was suppressed in the United States because it did not turn out to be theHollywood genre film the producers intended, so Ganja & Hess was withdrawn when Gunn went beyond the vampire genre and turned in an original product. The original cut was donated to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) whose restoration work & screenings helped build the films reputation as a neglected classic of independent African American cinema. The restored version later received a superior DVD & Blu Ray release through Kino Lorber and in 2014 the film was remade by Spike Lee as Da Sweet Blood of Jesus. The soundtrack to this exceptional film was composed Sam Waymon, a creative legend who has contributed to local, national and world culture. Born in North Carolina, Sam Waymon began his musical odyssey playing along with his sister, Eunice. His sister left North Carolina in the 50s and traveled north to pursue her career. Along the way shedropped her given name and became one of musics most influential and independent musicians, known as Nina Simone.Sam performed with and wrote music for his sister for over ten years but finally broke away to develop a style of his own that combines gospel, R&B, blues and jazz. Sam went on to record for record labels like: RCA, Polygram, and his own label Resolution records. He has worked side by side with legendary artists such as Miles Davis, Donnie Hathaway, Roberta Flack, The 5th dimension, and the list goes on and on.Even more haunting than the film is its music, Sam Waymon created an innovative, ahead-of-its-time mixture of soul, tribal chants, gospel and trippy, dissonant experimental cues that makes for the strangest score for a vampire film. Now, for the FIRST TIME ON VINYL (or on any format) Strange Disc records proudly presents a deluxe color vinyl edition (with insert containing exclusive liner notes & rare photographic materials) exclusively for Record Store Day 2018. Curated and supervised by composer Sam Waymon himself, this release is strictly limited to 1000 copies worldwide.

4 - WHY? - ALOPECIA - (LP)    NEW
JOYFUL

Gatefold jacket. "I'll go unknown by torpedo or Crohn's / Only those evil live to see their own likeness in stone." It's the kind of couplet you'd carve into a wall whilst savoring the irony at hand, but when Yoni Wolf spit the line ten years ago he was blissfully, broodily unaware that he and his band WHY? were creating a career-defining album_one so fan-adored that it would go out of print, and so influential that the art-pop heroine Lorde herself would lovingly steal the very lyric quoted above. When it dropped in 2008, Alopecia not only marked WHY?'s evolution from a sonically collaged mostly solo project to a live-recorded powerhouse band of badass multi-instrumentalists. It also minted a genre of one: wryly written, poignantly posed, simultaneously swaggering and heart-rending song-rap that jangles like folk, bursts like psych-rock, and sways like chamber pop. To this day, there is no other group in the known universe that sounds or feels like WHY? does on Alopecia. The album's 2018 reissue cheekily etches that aural likeness into our musical history.

5 - WRAY, LINK - LINK WRAY & THE WRAYMEN - (CD)    UPDATED
HALLMARK

Link Wray may have made only minimal impact on the charts yet his style and influence knows no boundaries, with the likes of Pete Townsend (of The Who), Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page all citinghim as an inspiration during their own formative years. His eponymous album, originally released on Epic in 1960, is something of a mixed bag collection. It containsthe blistering rock and roll that had heralded his sudden arrival, thanks here to the hit Rawhide, yet also has tofeature the watered down version as demanded by the label chiefs. On the strength of Rawhide alone, one canbut wonder how strong an album Link Wray might have produced left to his own devices.
