Puerto Hurraco Sisters

Goin' Out

First official long-player by the Hessen-based ska-jazz septet, containing former ,Frau Doktor" and ,Walter Elf" members: What happens if you combine 50% of the Wiesbaden ska/punk/soul heroes of ,Frau Doktor" with Frank Rahm, one of the musical mastermind of bands like ,Spermbirds", ,Walter Elf" and ,Kick Joneses", plus a talented young trombone-player? Right! You get a first-class ska-jazz-'boygroup': relaxed, good looking, likeable and of the finest musical texture. The Puerto Hurraco Sisters continue the pattern that was started during Frau Doktor times in cover-versions like ,Moanin'" and ,Birks Works". They do this by not only helping themselves to themes from the hardbop and soul-jazz era then infusing them with traditional Jamaican dance-music styles, but also by not shying away from using the occasional Stevie Wonder-Song. As long as it's fun, has a good groove and fits like a tight 60's skirt. On their first long-player, ,Goin' Out" (released June 30th on Rookie Records), the PHS gather eight highly varied covers and original songs, from happily rumbling up-tempo ska and rocking surf to swinging rocksteady, melancholic reggae-jazz and a calypso inspired tune. In other words: everything that sweetens up summer for friends of the offbeat oriented brass-sound, matured by over twenty years of stage-experience and with that well-known ironic wink.
