3 - CASH, JOHNNY - ORIGINAL SUN SOUND OF JOHNNY CASH - (LP)
CHARLY

2018 REMASTERED AUDIOPHILE EDITION OF THE CLASSIC SUN ALBUM ON HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL. THE FIRST 1,000 LPs ON LIMITED MAGENTA VINYL The comprehensive remastering and repackaging upgrade of the Man In Black's legendary Sun catalogue continues with the release of Johnny Cash's seventh and final album for Sun Records. Long after Cash's acrimonious departure for Columbia Records in 1958, Sun's release of riginal Sun Sound of Johnny Cash' proved that they still had a catalogue of high-quality unreleased Cash material, with four new songs: "New Mexico", "Goodnight Irene", "Alway Alone" and "Two Timin' Woman". In fact, Sun had released the leanest, most accomplished album in the Cash canon. The record also featured Cash's perhaps career-defining single "Big River", which reached No. 4 in the country charts in 1958 and shows off his instinctive poetic ability. Complete with sleeve notes by noted Sun Records authority Adam Komorowski and president of Sun Entertainment Corporation John Singleton, this LP has been remastered from the original Sun master tapes by Nick Robbins at Soundmastering Studios and cut to lacquers at half-speed for unrivalled sound quality by Barry Grint at Alchemy Mastering in London.

Lonesome Me, Straight As In Love, Come In Stranger and Katy Too, all featured in this superb collection. 5 - CASH, JOHNNY - SINGS HANK WILLIAMS & OTHER FAVORITE TUNES - (LP)
CHARLY

2018 REMASTERED AUDIOPHILE EDITION OF THE CLASSIC SUN ALBUM ON HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL. THE FIRST 1,000 LPs ON LIMITED SUNSET ORANGE VINYL!The comprehensive remastering and repackaging upgrade of the Man In Black's legendary Sun catalogue continues with the release of Johnny Cash's fourth album for Sun Records. If there was one man who could fill the void left in the hearts of music lovers by the untimely death of Hank Williams, he was Johnny Cash. Cash was a singer who had the same type of appeal which Williams did; audiences liked not only his singing and playing - they liked him as a person. It is very appropriate that Cash kept alive the music and memory of Hank through this album from 1960, and the numbers recorded here are representative of the best of Hank Williams as a songwriter and Johnny Cash as an artist. Included in the album are some of "Johnny's million sellers" - the choice records that are most in demand by collectors of Cash records, and the popular Gene Lowery Singers provide an added element on several of the selections. The sensitive treatment of these well-known songs by one of the States' most loved performers saw this album reach #6 in the Country charts.

6 - GONG - ANGELS EGG - (LP)
CHARLY

PART 2 OF THE RADIO GNOME INVISIBLE TRILOGY WITH 2015 REMASTER ON SPECIAL EDITION "INVISIBLE" VINYL IN A GATEFOLD SLEEVE! "this is their holy grail, uncarved block and philosopher's stone rolled into one" Classic Rock (UK) Gong's quintessential trilogy comprised of the albums 'Flying Teapot','Angels Egg' and ou' are reissued worldwide by BYG / Charly Records, remastered in 2015 from the original tapes by Nick Robbins at Soundmastering Studios. ngels Egg' is not your usual progressive rock album. Very quirky, with many, mostly brief compositions, the album is a tad less spacy than 'Flying Teapot', with just a few psychedelic-inspired lyrics, and is very technically adept. This eclectic composition travels through several movements and time changes and comes across as a perpetually progressing piece. The album sees the classic Gong line-up in full swing with primo Daevid Allen vocals and lyrics, and Steve Hillage's first full inclusion to the band bearing fruit with musical quality akin to his solo work. This classic Gong trilogy is released on 180g heavyweight audiophile "invisible" vinyl featuring remastered audio in gatefold packaging and 16-page booklets. The current line-up, which features Kavus Torabi (Knifeworld) following the passing of founder Daevid Allen, is enjoying the success and worldwide tour of 2016 album Rejoice! I'm Dead! and have revealed the first of their 2019 festival appearances at the UK's HRH Prog.

9 - HOOKER, JOHN LEE - BURNIN' - (LP)
CHARLY

Charly pays JOHN LEE HOOKER's "Burnin'", the classic Vee Jay album from 1962, its long overdue honours and gives it the re-release treatment. "Burnin'" is easily one of best records next to "It Serves You Right To Suffer" and "I'm John Lee Hooker" that the blues master has recorded with a backing band without sacrificing his characteristic, monotonous beat. Along with an absolutely awe-inspiring version of the LEROY CARR track "Blues Before Sunrise" stands the indestructible "Boom, Boom" - here buffed up by Joe Hunter's piano - which became the unofficial anthem of British Invasion bands like ANIMALS&THEM. The eleven remastered analogue tracks of the original are here accompanied by five ultra rare bonus tracks. 180gr vinyl in a heavy duty cover with an updated, authentic version of the original artwork.

10 - LAVETTE, BETTYE - NEARER TO YOU - (LP)
CHARLY

Bettye Lavette's appearance at Barack Obama's inauguration concert in January 2009, singing A Change Is Gonna Come, introduced her to a global audience of millions who had hitherto been totally unaware of her immense talent and interpretive powers. She now appears regularly on US TV and has had guest slots with Jay Leno, Letterman and on most other significant American late night chat shows. She is a true American music legend, although the critical acclaim, awards and accolades deservedly showered upon her in recent years were a long time coming. Although Lavette recorded for a variety of label's from the early 60s onwards, many soul fans regard the material she recorded for Silver Fox and SSS International in Memphis in the late 60s and early 70s as some of her finest. Nearer To You is a collection of all the singer's recordings from these two labels and includes two fine duets with Hank Ballard. This is the first time this collection has been available in two decades.

11 - LEWIS, JERRY LEE - WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN' GOIN' ON - (LP)
CHARLY

REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPES, 180 GRAM DELUXE VINYL, OLD STYLE TIP-ON COVER. Jerry Lee Lewis never lacked self confidence. When asked who played on one of his sessions, he replied "I played on it, thats all you need to know!" When the Million Dollar Quartet recordings took place in December 1956, Jerry Lee was not slow to push himself forward. Jerry Lee recorded prolifically at Sun, turning his attention to a wide variety of source material. From the r&b of Drinkin Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee to the pop of Singing The Blues, he encompassed a whole variety of musical genres adapting them to his own unique interpretations. All the sides on this album were recorded during a three month period during the first part of 1957, before he had his first hit with Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On. Apart from the two sides which made up his second single for Sun, all the tracks on this album remained in the can until Shelby Singleton purchased the Sun catalogue. Traditional country songs featured on this album include Hand Me Down My Walking Cane, Deep Elem Blues, The Crawdad Song and Old Time Religion. The sleeve notes by Ding Dong give a vivid snapshot of Jerry Lees activities during the period of the recordings on this album.

12 - MARLEY, BOB -& THE WAILERS- - 30 YEARS AGO - (LP)
CHARLY

Marking the 30 anniversary of Bob Marley's death in May 1981, this Double Album collects together highlights from Marley's pre-Island Records recordings. Bob Marley had already established himself as the leading voice of Reggae music before his signing to Island Records in 1972 and his rise to international super-stardom. This is evident from these 20 gems from his earlier recordings made with The Wailers, which many reggae authorities consider to be his finest and purest work. Very much roots-based, they are in marked contrast to Marley's later ones for Island, where his sound was tailored towards the lucrative rock market. These remarkable recordings from the late 60's and early 70's remain as testament to Marley's genius as both a songwriter and a singer. Comprising in the main of titles from his sessions with famed producer Lee Perry, the set features several titles which Marley was successfully to return to in later years, such as 'Trenchtown Rock', 'Lively Up Yourself', and 'Natural Mystic'. The set also contains several sought-after titles and versions as well as his original recording of 'Concrete Jungle', a highlight of his 'Catch A Fire' debut album for Island. The media activity surrounding the 30th anniversary of Marley's death is set to re-kindle interest in the recorded legacy of reggae music's first superstar to which this set will provide an ideal introduction. 2x 180gr, gatefold sleeve, printed innersleeves.

14 - ORBISON, ROY - AND THE TEEN KINGS - (LP)
CHARLY

... After recording on the Je-Wel label in Texas, Roy Orbison and his band The Teen Kings came to Memphis in the Spring of 1956. Orbison continued recording for Sun through to 1958, but he couldn't replicate the success of his first release, Ooby Dooby, which reached the lower half of the Hot 100 and selling over 350,000 copies. After leaving Sun, Roy signed with RCA but met with no commercial success until he moved to Fred Foster's Monument label, and struck gold with Only The Lonely, backed by Go Go Go. Between 1960 -1965 he notched up 21 hits before switching to MGM and scoring seven more hits in the next two years. One of the most popular American artists in Britain, his popularity wasn't dented by the advent of the Merseybeat era. He topped the U.K. charts three times and charted 33 times. Roy came back to international prominence as a member of The Travelling Wilburys before resuming his solo recording career on Virgin. He returned to the charts after a gap of 20 years in 1989 and charted six times up until 1993, despite his premature death in 1988. This album contains the original undubbed versions of Tryin' To Get To You, Problem Child, You're Gonna Cry, Mean Little Mama and This Kind Of Love. It also contains the first recording of I Was A Fool that features Roy and Hayden Thompson on vocals. The version of Problem Child included here is without sax overdub. 15 - PERKINS, CARL - PUT YOUR CAT CLOTHES ON - (LP)
CHARLY

. Carl Perkins was the first artist to score a Top 10 rockabilly hit in the States. The first artist to chart in the pop, R&B and Country charts with the same record - Blue Suede Shoes.. Major pioneer of rockabilly and rock'n'roll whose guitar playing was an integral part of his success and who inspired George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Dave Edmunds and countless other aspiring guitarists. A car crash on the way to New York to appear on the Perry Como Show, robbed Carl of national exposure and laid him up in hospital with multiple injuries when he should have been cashing in on the success of Blue Suede Shoes. Glad All Over, written by Elvis tunesmiths, Schroeder, Tepper and Bennett was featured in the film Jamboree and covered by The Beatles in 1963 on their BBC radio sessions. A successful song writer (he penned eight of the tracks on this release), he also wrote hits for the likes of Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and The Judds. This release contains a previously unissued version of Sweethearts Or Strangers. Matchbox is one of several of Carl's songs covered by the Beatles. Put Your Cat Clothes On, a classic Perkins track that wasn't released until the 1970s, was covered by Brian Setzer of The Stray Cats. These sides, all recorded in 1957, highlight Carl at his finest, be it on country numbers like Your True Love or down home rockers like Dixie Fried and That's Right. The latter had one verse edited out on the British London-American release because of the use of the word "bugger". Carl subsequently moved to Columbia Records but never quite recaptured the magic of his timeless Sun recordings.

16 - REED, JIMMY - I'M JIMMY REED - (LP)
CHARLY

The legendary JIMMY REED and his no less legendary 1958 debut on Vee Jay Records. There are classics galore on "I'm Jimmy Reed": "You Got Me Dizzy", "Honest I Do" (which helped REED overtake the greats like MUDDY WATERS and HOWLIN' WOLF in the national charts) and "Ain't That Loving You Baby" that was later successfully played by THE ROLLING STONES. REED's Songwriting and his simple two-finger-boogie-technique have left obvious traces in the standard repertoire of any blues band - despite or probably because REED's approach to the Blues was always somewhat more moderate than that of his peers. The twelve remastered analogue tracks are accompanied by four rare bonus tracks. 180gr vinyl in a heavy duty cover with an updated, authentic version of the original artwork.TRACKLISTING: 01. CHARLY

THE CLUB THAT SET THE TEMPLATE FOR NORTHERN SOUL! LP COMPILED WITH FOUNDING DJ CARL DENE AND NEWLY REMASTERED FOR THE CLUB'S 50th ANNIVERSARY! "Before the Catacombs there was Rhythm & Blues, after the Catacombs there was Northern Soul" - Carl Dene They called it "the greatest little Soul Club in the land" and, as history tells us, it bridged the gap between the R&B of the Twisted Wheel and the "adrenalin" soul of the Golden Torch. It was an integral part of the rare soul movement and set the template for what became known as Northern Soul ! This stunning vinyl album is compiled in association with the club's founding DJ, Carl Dene, and celebrates its 50th Anniversary. 19 - VARIOUS - RED BIRD STORY, VOL. 1 - (LP)
CHARLY

Founded in 1964 by esteemed songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Red Bird Records may only have been operational for three years, but during that time the label became synonymous with the 60s girl group sound, particularly due to the success of The Shangri-Las and The Dixie Cups - both of whom scored No.1 hits for Red Bird in its fledgling year. Rising Phoenix-like from earlier try-outs with Tiger (founded in 1962) and then Daisy (in 1963), Red Bird was unique among indie labels in that its output was of a consistently high standard and almost half of its releases made a commercial impact. The secret to Red Bird's 'Hit factory' lay in no small part with the chart-topping Brill Building songwriting team of Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, who had earlier penned hits for producer Phil Spector's Ronettes and Crystals.

22 - VARIOUS - ROCKABILLY TUNES - (LP)
CHARLY

The bulk of the recordings on this compilation were not originally released by Sun Records during its existence and several first appeared on this album. Ken Cook's duet with Roy Orbison was originally issued on Phillips International in 1958 credited to Ken Cook. Thinkin' Tonight Of My Blue Eyes saw it's first release on this album, as did Ray Harris' Love Dumb Baby. The only song recorded on Sun containing the word "Rockabilly" was Hayden Thompson's Rockabilly Gal. Andy Anderson's Johnny Valentine and Tough, Tough, Tough saw their first release on this album and have since become iconic Sun recordings. Jimmy Wages did not have any of his Sun recordings issued until 1975. Heartbreakin' Love and Take Me were previously unissued, but their popularity was sufficient to bring Wages over to Britain to appear live. Tommy Ruick was another who never saw a release on Sun Records and his three sides on this album represent 75% of his Sun recordings. Narvel Felts, in common with a number of Sun artists, made the big time after leaving Sun, in his case in 1973. His recordings for the Memphis label remained unissued for some 20 odd years. Vintage photos of the artists and Ding Dong's detailed sleeve notes adorn the album.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Roy Orbison - I Was A Fool 02. H. Thompson/s. Rhodes - Rockabilly Gal 03. Andy Anderson - Johnny Valentine 04. Andy Anderson - Tough Tough Tough 05. Ray Harris - Love Dumb Baby 06. Jimmy Wages - Heartbreakin' Love 07. Jimmy Wages - Take Me 08. Ken Cook - Thinkin, Tonite Of My Blue Eyes 09. Tommy Ruick - Don't Come Crying 10. Tommy Ruick - Prisoner Of The Blues 11. Tommy Ruick - Let 'em Know 12. Narvel Felts - Lonely River 13. Narvel Felts - Foolish Thoughts 14. Narvel Felts - Lonesome Feeling
