1 - A CULTURE OF KILLING - A CULTURE OF KILLING - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Very little information exists about Italian anarcho-punks A Culture Of Killing. Like many of their forebears, they evidently eschew communication via mainstream press or corporate-owned social media. So I guess its on me to tell ya that their latest release is a long-overdue vinyl press of their 2017 self-titled cassette, and it absolutely slays.OK, its not immediately obvious as anarcho - you wont find the teeth-rattling rhythms of early Crass or Flux Of Pink Indians on any of the eight tracks here. Sonically the territory the occupy is somewhere between the gothed-out territory marked out by The Cure and Siouxsie, and the more mournful but recognisably punk tones of The Mob (in fact, they even cover that bands Mirror Breaks and firmly put their own stamp on it). This screams early 1980s

DRUNKEN SAILOR

Released to coincide with their UK tour, the brand new album from crazy Japanese speed punks 'A Page Of Punk 49 new songs! A Page of Punk are a frighteningly explosive, 100% energy, raw punk rock band from Tokyo. Formed in 2001, they have played a prominent and hugely active role in the Japanese underground Punk Scene for over 12 years. There are 3 albums to date, (on Japanese/U.S.&U.K labels) all using their distinctive A5, 30 page booklet format. Their short & fast manic punk rock aligns perfectly with abrasive vocals covering issues mainly concerned with political & social injustice & inequality and also about just how god-damn much they love punk rock!

3 - A PAGE OF PUNK/WEREWOLVES ON MOTORCYCLES - SPLIT - (7")
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Split 7" to coincide with their joint October Japanese Tour Both bands reunited again for this awesome split for their joint Japanese tour 7" A Page of Punk recorded these songs on their amazing UK tour in August. Just the 7 songs this time! Songs about Punks, Love, War and Dreams. As there ever been a band like APOP, I dunno. Werewolves totally step up to the plate, 4 of their final songs, each one killer. These songs maybe my favourite ones they have done, sucks that they will be no more. This band slay, for fans of New Bomb Turks/ Melvins/ UK82.

4 - ACRYLICS - STRUCTURE/GLUTTONY - (7")
DRUNKEN SAILOR

After a 12" on Neck Chop and a 7" on Iron Lung, Acrylics are back with two incredible, discordant blasts, this is the sound of your mind being ripped out. If you are looking for contemporaries, I'm not sure there are any at the moment. "Structure" is a bit more on the pogo side complimented nicely with sharp echo stabs and a ruinous atmosphere. "Gluttony" brings us back to that toss-and-turn-in-a-dark-alley kind of crunchy freak junk that the teens mangle themselves to. Our favorite blend of ugly and appealing."

5 - ALIEN NOSEJOB - SUDDENLY EVERYTHING IS TWICE AS LOUD - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

You'd think Jake Robertson would already have his hands full playing in the likes of Ausmuteants, Leather Towel, School Damage, Drug Sweat et al. But no, evidently theres always time for one more thoroughly wracked project, and Alien Nose Jobs focus is as kaleidoscopically scattershot as youd expect from a man with such a short attention span. Just to confirm: yes, thats a good thing.

7 - BABY GHOSTS - GHOSTS IN A VACUUM - (7")
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Debut EP from Baby Ghosts. "Heaven Is A Place In Space" is poppy and within its catchiness there's a brilliant punk feel brought out by the piercing guitars. It's girlie-punk and when you discern the indie-pop vibe that follows in "Gravy Brain," you're struck with the band's affinity to make 'cute' music so appealing. They've always prided themselves on their anime-punk and catchy garage sound, and it's splendid how they make this work over and over again. The EP has a grainy feel to it and it's well-suited. Queue "Married Alive," which pokes fun at marriage actually being a death sentence and you realize how enjoyable the band are once you don't take them that seriously. "Love Me Buy Can't" rounds off a spunky four-tracker that lends credence to Baby Ghosts' reputation as a band that's ready to stay true to their style and deliver.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Heaven Is A Place In Space 03:15 02. Gravy Brain 02:33 03. Married Alive 03:03 04. Love Me Buy Can't 02:09

8 - BASEMENT BENDERS - BASEMENT BENDERS - (7")
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Tons of bands that I fall in love with seem to either be from or have a link to Chattanooga. I have no idea what they put in the water (Beer) there, but I want some. The Basement Benders are no exception, fresh from a short European tour and have already written their debut LP. Featuring members of Future Virgins/ This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb/ Hidden Spots/ Dark Rides/ Tulsa/ Stun Guns/ Black Rainbow/ Cleveland Bound Death Sentence/ Sexy. It's hard to define what kind of genre they fit into, i dunno, but i do know that all the songs have a soul, an optimism and each tell a story. Obviously they rule too. A band to fall in love with.

9 - BOOJI BOYS - TUBE REDUCER - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Tube Reducer follows 2017s double whammy of their self-titled debut and its gnarlier-than-thou follow-up Weekend Rocker - the latter of which was released on Xmas day, cuz whats more festive than the gift of ultra-lo-fi punk that sounds like The Undertones playing Smarter Than U inside a hairdryer while dragging The Jags by their skinny ties and throwing them in a chemical waste dump? And guess what? Its more of the good stuff. In fact it could well be their best record so far. Sonically, you should know what to expect by now - a disregard for fidelity thatd make Guided By Voices knock back another beer or 12 in appreciation; songs that sound way more effortlessly simple than they necessarily are; melodies thatll burrow their way into your head even as you fight through the fuzz to make out what the hell vocalist Alex Mitchell is actually singing.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Contrition 01:33 02. Calling 01:57 03. Lucky Citizen 01:32 04. New Replacement 01:57 05. Nothing Good 01:49 06. Tube Reducer 01:11 07. Life As A Fed 02:02 08. Cody Oi 02:11 09. Berlinetta 02:44 10. Distorto 01:51 11. Herky Jerky 00:27 12. Stevie Cool 02:07 13. Honeyboy 02:19 14. Nervous Idea 01:33 15. Moto-hard 02:57

10 - C.H.E.W. - FEEDING FRENZYY - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Feeding Frenzy is the real deal. No, wait, let me start over: C.H.E.W. are the realest of deals. Their debut LP starts with a flurry of drums and goes straight into the kinda agro-heavy, no-bullshit, straight-to-the-point hardcore that gets the adrenaline flowing so fast you can practically see it burst out of your chest and march on over to the front of the show to get a circle pit going. Most punk packs a punch; this simply pulverises, in the best possible way. Four anarcho kids with righteous ideals, C.H.E.W. are here to make you sit up and take notice. Well, what else can you do when the blitzkrieg rains forth on you as powerfully and scintillatingly as this? Once its started, the album barely lets up for a second. Even when they slow down for a spacious creepy-crawl just before the midway point, you can feel the tension ratcheting up another notch or 12, just to keep you anticipating the rush of hi-velocity chaos thats surely about to hit home (and surely does).

TRACKLISTING: 01. Violation 01:18 02. It's A Living 00:44 03. Repeat Offender 02:50 04. Mr Nice Guy 00:58 05. Daily Affirmation 01:43 06. Patience 01:01 07. Gag Order 02:08 08. Feeding Frenzy Pt I 02:33 09. Feeding Frenzy Pt Ii 01:32 10. Open Secret 02:19 11. The Defeatist 00:45 12. Kin 00:30 13. Shame 01:12 14. Burden 02:44 15. Greater Good 01:37 16. Belly Up 06:39

11 - CELL - CELL - (7")
DRUNKEN SAILOR

The first time I heard this demo it totally floored me, easily the best demo i have heard in ages. Hailing from Montreal and featuring members of Remwar, Vile Intent, Sek and Terse. Crushing Hardcore/ Punk, reverb drenched aestheticized vocals, song structures that whilst having a firm root in Hardcore also give a nod to some of the more harder metal bands. Led by bruising riffs and the tough vocals of Sash Pozzie, Cell are a newish Montreal band who bleed the edges of hardcore and metal to create their own wall of suffocating sound. There was a lot of reverb and scowling dread found on their three-song demo that was released earlier this year and now, that same demo is getting released on vinyl through Drunken Sailor. Almost suffocating under the total wall of sound, one of the best debut records you will hear this year. FFO Bib, Gag, Daudyflin.

13 - CEREAL KILLER - THE BEGINNING & END OF CEREAL KILLER - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

'The Beginning & End Of Cereal Killer" is the band's first full length album to date and also their last release since 2016's, "Demo's EP". The album was recorded over six weeks of tracking in the famous Geelong studios, "The Barracks", before calling upon mastermind Mikey Young to sail his yacht across the bay and put his much practised mixing techniques into full effect. The result is mind-blowing. Cereal Killer gained worldwide success in 2016 after their headline performances at Glastonbury and Coachella festivals where they blew away adoring fans and reached international stardom.

14 - CHAIN WHIP - 14 LASHES - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Theyre at their best when exploding in under 60 seconds, like on the very cross Spectator, but two-minute epic Turner Street Ghost Motel reveals something dangerously close to Dead Kennedys-style melody that could make Chain Whip ones to stick with for the long haul. Well, thats assuming theyre even in it for the long haul; maybe this is the last well see of em and this blizzard of brilliance that sounds like DOA, the Germs and Career Suicide punching holes in the side of a mountain is all well have to remember em by. If thats how this is all gonna play out, I implore you to buy this record -. you owe it to yourself to hear it before we and they meet our grisly fate."

15 - CHEAP WHINE - CHEAP WHINE - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Cheap Whine sound like classic 70s punk always sounds in your head, but somehow never quite lives up to. Nagging powerpop melodies, frantic energy in abundance and enough snot to fill a swimming pool - mind you, that shouldnt come as a surprise once you learn whos involved. Steve Adamyk has been crafting nuggets of two-minute genius with his own band and Sedatives for the last decade, while Eric French makes sweet, sweet trash pop with Feral Trash. Add the powerhouse drumming of Crusades Jordy Bell and youve got a recipe for mind-blowing, heart-racing magic, which they serve up in deliciously moreish chunks. Marked Men/Chinese Telephones/Ringers fans, listen up. They sing like they just got turfed out of a bar for throwing peanuts at playboys, and they play like theyre skating through plate glass windows. The ideal amount of fucks are given. Whats more, in closing tracks Best Times and Letter to J, they might just have written the perfect one-two suckerpunch combo of powerpop classics. Ill take two.

16 - COOL GREEN HOUSE, THE - LANDLORDS/4CHAN - (7")
DRUNKEN SAILOR

What if The Fall, Pere Ubu and the Swell Maps got fed up with all that searing rocknroll business and decided to strip things back to the simple electronic beat of a knackered old Casio keyboard? What if they figured they may as well mumble some bon mots over the top, and smother it in nagging, lo-fi repetition, whether composed of discordant keyboard stabs or undulating guitar chords? Thats right, youd probably end up somewhere in the vicinity of The Cool Greenhouses batshit take on pop-mangling nonsense. If the above doesnt sound worlds away from all your weirdo post-punk favourites, served up the likes of Rough Trade, Ron Johnson et al, youre right - its all in the same wheelhouse. OK, here the rage and the noise seem more subtle but, but none of it is any less caustic or pointed than the sounds you already know and love to be baffled by.

17 - CORNER BOYS - WAITING FOR 2020 - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Whats that you say? The punk album of 2019? Ahhh, cmon man, its way too early for grand statements like that. What, you think you can make this claim? Just because Vancouver trio Corner Boys have managed to mesh the finest elements of Good Vibrations heroes like Rudi, Protex and (sure) The Undertones with the buzzsaw powerpop of their city forefathers, the Pointed Sticks? Just because songs like (Im Such A) Mess flow so effortlessly into your consciousness that youll start wondering how your brain ever functioned without em? Hell, just because this might just be a perfectly-executed example of the sort of spiky, addictively essential treat wed all started to wonder if wed ever hear again?Waiting For The 2020 follows a duo of excellent singles (2017s Just Dont Care and last years Love Tourist, released by Drunken Sailor and Dirt Cult respectively) and it doesnt just pick up where they left off - it does what you always hope the follow-up to an opening salvo will do. It takes the promise they set forth and does way more than merely deliver on it, instead providing us with hook after hook and pogo-worthy pop classic after pogo-worthy pop classic. It makes you want to bounce around the room and dance on the steering wheel of a bulldozer as it ploughs through the local Conservative club. only to flip the disc and return the needle to the start as soon as it leaves the groove. So no, lets not call it the punk album of 2019 just yet; lets give it some time to breathe and see how we all feel many months down the line. Still, sometimes you just get a hunch.

18 - COWBOY, THE - THE COWBOY - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

"What do you get when you add 2/3 of Homostupids to 1/2 of Pleasure Leftists? You get Cleveland's most explosive new act, THE COWBOY! Do the math, it checks out. These three gringos are confident enough in their chops to make the bold move of having their debut not just be twelve inches long but also twelve tracks long. Only seasoned veterans such as the gentlemen of THE COWBOY could pull off such a daring feat. Every one of these dozen songs is Grade A rock guitar beef Americano style, with that homegrown flavor Clev-O is so famous for. Grab your knife and fork a dig in for two sides of prime cuts. Now that the title of America's Greatest Rock'n'Roll Band seems to be up for grabs again, these fellas are throwing their hats in the ring and it's certainly not their first rodeo. So saddle up, Sally, and LET'S GO!" -Richie K/Terminal Boredom ex Homostupids,

20 - CROW BAIT - SEPARATE STATIONS - (7")
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Hot off the heels of their debut LP entitled "Sliding Through the Halls of Fate" on Don Giovanni Records, Crow Bait returns. The band is from New York featuring three guys that you probably know from past and current projects such as Sister Kisser, and Iron Chic. But if you're checking this out on the basis of those bands, expecting to hear another "Not Like This" or "Vipers" - two very good records - prepare to be left scratching your head. Crow Bait, while clearly looking forward, is also clearly trying to create something that resembles the music they grew up on - Goo Goo Dolls, Buffalo Tom, The Replacements, etc. And they do a damn good job. If you're like me, and you never change the dial when a good 90's alt-rock song comes on the radio, this record is right up your alley.

21 - DARK THOUGHTS - AT WORK - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Theyve mastered the blink-and-youll-miss-it-twice energy of that sneaky subgenre some call Ramonescore and made it their own, revelling in hooks and pace while making you wanna inhale a good lungful of industrial strength glue (no, your pritt stick wont do the job). The Philadelphia trio have been making a ludicrously addictive noise for a few years now, dropping their self-titled debut back in 2016, and now theyre ready to move out of the shadows and firmly into your new favourite band territory. References? You got em: theyll call to mind the Bay Area punk of the 80s/early 90s, the I-gotta-weld-that-sound-to-my-brain instancy of Dear Landlord, the in-yer-face-and-out-the-back-of-yer-skull buzzsaw racket of The Queers or The Riverdales (and you dont even have to worry about that turd Ben Weasel being involved). Theyre a goodtime noise for downbeat folks, and they know how to get your subconscious begging for more. Not many bands will make you wanna spike your boss drink with bleach before driving your car into a ravine with the volume turned way up. Dark Thoughts are one of em. Get familiar, asap.

22 - DARK THOUGHTS - MUST BE NICE - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

"You only get worse," goes the first line on Dark Thoughts third album, but while they might be correct about your personal decline, this West Philly trio are quite evidently better than ever. Hot on the heels of 2018s At Work LP - 18 months later, to be precise - this new collection sees the band at their wilfully-dumb-but-smarter-than-u best, knocking out Ramonescore nuggets of the purest gold as if their lives depended on it.

23 - DENIM & LEATHER - SACRED AUTISM - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Some bands make you feel like testing out a new pair of slippers in the local library. Other bands, maybe youll throw a beer down your throat before skating down a ravine. But the best type of bands make you wanna tear off your own ears and clamp em to the heads of everyone you hold dear, while you scream YOU CAN HEAR WHAT IM HEARING, RIGHT? Denim & Leather are the latter type. They mainly sound like Pissed Jeans flipping over a cement mixer while Kira-era Black Flag stand in a circle around em, throwing firecrackers. Except for when they dont - then they sound like the wooziest buncha too-cool-for-you guitar-slingers around, with lips curled to implausible angles. Sacred Autism is their debut album and you owe it to yourself to go deaf to it at the earliest opportunity. Wanna hear what pure euphoria feels like? Cathedral Gardens is all punk energy and corrosive fury, the reason you got into this whole mess. Hatchlings is The Stooges starting a brickfight, then smirkingly denying all involvement. Ancient Cowboy Burial Ground, meanwhile, is serious business.

24 - DITCHES - DITCHES - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Meet Ditches, from Stockholm coming straight out the gutter and speeding into the part of your brain where all the catchiest melodies lurk for the rest of time. This is their debut LP, a frantic collision of powerpop, garage rock and the most addictive of yer favourite punk classics. Think the snot of the Adolescents with JJ ONeills natural way around a melody, or simply recall Jeff Burke of The Marked Men/Radioactivitys knack for invoking the tartrazine high and the sugar crash at exactly the same time. All these things can be found here, and plenty more besides.

26 - DROIDS BLOOD - BE FREE - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Debut LP from this Chicago band that is a new iteration of Broken Prayer. If you were a fan of Broken Prayer it's hard to imagine how you wouldn't be on board with Droid's Blood, since they rely on a similar combination of noisy hardcore and whirring synth topped with Scott Plant's trademark topical lyrics and distinctive vocals. Since 2016 Plant has been fronting Droids Blood, whose lineup also includes Broken Prayer drummer Nick Donahue. On their new self-titled tape, they vary the tempos more and even add some borderline poppy hooks, but there's also lots of grimy, slightly industrial synth gunk and bass murk-"Unreality" sounds deranged in the best possible way.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Unreality 02. Half Sacrifice 03. Rotary Phone 04. Strict Imagination 05. Be Free 06. Capable 07. Sympathy 08. Selfish 09. Cop 10. Reality

27 - DYKE DRAMA - UP AGAINST THE BRICKS - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Second solo LP from Sadie Switchblade (G.L.O.S.S./ Peeple Watchin', Credentials). Dyke Drama seems to be Switchblades outlet for songs of the stirring and heartsick variety, and she navigates through punk anthemics, Replacements-core pointedness, and countryfied storytelling with ease. The album opens with "Rolling Tears", starting with an acoustic guitar and changing pace suddenly, setting the mood for the record. She opens up about her relationship struggles in "Crying In A Bathroom Stall," showing uninhibited emotion as she sings about coping with heartbreak: "I dunno how Im gonna live, how Im gonna live through this" and shares her feelings towards cis women and their lack of understanding in "Cis Girls", saying "You say Im second to none, like I aint second best." The album ends with "Some Days I Load My Gun", a harrowing acoustic track about contemplating suicide

28 - EARTH GIRLS - WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY - (7")
DRUNKEN SAILOR

The Chicago-based band Earth Girls featuring Liz Panella- guitar/vocals (Libyans, Siamese Twins, Broken Prayer), Jeff Rice- drums (Daylight Robbery), and Joey Kappel- bass (Broken Prayer, Boilerman), began in early 2013 following two previous incarnations as The Waifs (2008) and Embarrassed Teens (2011). Bonding over a shared love for both hook-laden garage / pop-punk and energy drinks, Liz and Jeff began practicing incessantly that summer, writing both new material as well as refining songs that had made it through the ranks of the two previous bands. Along with Joey (who had logged time in Embarrassed Teens), Earth Girls finished up writing the songs that would make up their demo that summer. However, the band held off on recording as they worked on securing a second guitar player. Struggling with a revolving cast of second guitar players (who have included Kale Mouser, Vince Aguilar, and Nic Allred), they opted to record as a trio, with Liz handling both rhythm and guitar tracks. Their first recording session consisted of nine songs, including the five song demo and four songs that would go on to make up their debut EP, "Wrong Side of History."

29 - FLAMINGO 50 - TEAR IT UP - (LP)
DRUNKEN SAILOR

Im just gonna come out and say it. Louise Hanman from Flamingo 50 is my favorite singer in the whole world. Her adolescent-boyish shout, and thick Liverpool accent spread smoothly over her bands noisy-guitar, Superchunky power pop to make this perfect little nugget, like Oliver Twist just after he eats a paper cone of French fries with mayonnaise. Seriously though, this album is awesome. Its a little more polished than their last full length; not sonically, but from a songwriting perspective. The record is awash in layered guitars, Beach Boys-inspired backing vocals, and an incredible warmth that only some magic mixing board wizard knows how to attain.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Count To Three 01:34 02. Annie Hall 01:51 03. December Sun 03:11 04. Face The Wall 01:59 05. I'll Show You What For 02:41 06. Last Time 02:46 07. Losing Out 03:34 08. Roll On Rolly Wheel 02:45 09. Velocity Exercise 00:43 10. Tongue Tied 02:34 11. Wrong Time Wrong Place 02:58 12. Mile After Mile 02:57

DRUNKEN SAILOR

3rd LP from Freak Genes, members of The Hipshakes, Proto-idiot, Red Cords. Freak Genes make cleverly deranged punk music for freaks, by freaks. Whether it's in their genes or acquired from years of dysfunctional ideas gone awry playing in bands, this album is a synth in your face.
