3 - HOWLIN' WOLF - HOWLIN' WOLF - (CD)
HALLMARK

Willie Dixons songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stonesand Led Zeppelin, but there is little doubt that Howlin Wolf was the finest interpreter. His versions of Shake ForMe, Back Door Man and Spoonful, among others, helped to define the blues in the 1960s. Not for nothing hasHowlin Wolf regularly been featured in any list of the 100 Greatest Artists of all Time. This particular album, an eponymous collection first issued in 1962 (the original featured a rocking horse on thecover, leading to the album sometimes being called The Rockin Chair Album) was a gathering of some six singlesreleased on Chess Records between 1960 and 1962. It includes all three titles referred to above, as well astwo titles written by Howlin Wolf in Whos Been Talkin and Tell Me.For the most part, the musicians featured are Howlin Wolf (vocals), Hubert Sumlin (guitar), Johnny Jones (piano),Willie Dixon (bass) and Sammy Law (drums), but whoever is playing, the quality remains constant throughout.

6 - HOWLIN' WOLF - MESSAGE TO THE YOUNG - (LP)
GET ON DOWN

1971 marked the release of Howlin Wolfs second experimental offering, "Message To The Young". Oft-considered his second attempt (after the "Howlin Wolf Album" he famously shunned) at offering the masses a "psychedelic" record, the sound on the record ranges from acid-rock, to blues, to funk, and back again. The title track on "Message To The Young" is exactly what the title suggests; Wolfs attempt at reaching the youth of the era in a beautiful spoken word ballad which can easily be summed up in two words "Be Yourself".

TRACKLISTING: 01. If I Were A Bird 02. I Smell A Rat 03. Miss James 04. Message To The Young 05. Shes Looking Good 06. Just As Long 07. Romance Without Finance 08. Turn Me On

8 - HOWLIN' WOLF - MOANIN' IN THE MOONLIGHT - (CD)
HALLMARK

Like many of the blues albums released during the 1950s and into the following decade, Moanin In The Moonlightwas not recorded as an album but rather as a series of singles. At some point, when Howlin Wolf hadrecorded enough material to justify it, these would be gathered together to create a new release.Whilst this would imply the album lacks any degree of spontaneity, the fact is that Howlin Wolf was such a uniquemusician and singer theres a level of quality to all of his recordings. A collection of singles it may be, but what acollection!

TRACKLISTING: 01. Moanin At Midnight 02. How Many More Years 03. Smokestack Lightnin 04. Baby How Long 05. No Place To Go 06. All Night Boogie 07. Evil 08. Im Leavin You 09. Moanin For My Baby 10. I Asked For Water (she Gave Me Gasoline) 11. Forty-four 12. Somebody In My Home

9 - HOWLIN' WOLF - ROCKIN' CHAIR (CONCERTO EDITION) - (LP)
CONCERTO RECORDS

Earlier in 1963 Sam Cooke released a single of "Little Red Rooster" making #7 on the R&B Singles chart and #11 on the Hot 100.
