2 - TELESCOPES, THE - AS APPROVED BY THE COMMITEE - (LP)
BOMP!

FINALLY ON VINYL! -- FIRST PRESSING on PINK VINYL LIMITED TO 500 COPIES. Originally released in the US in 2003 on CD only, this album compiles some of the band's earliest and best work, with material mostly out of print (and all of it previouslyunreleased in the USA), which originally appeared, with frequent chart success, on labels like Creation and What Goes On. The Telescopes were among the most innovative and challenging yet successful artists in Creation Records' "middle period", a leading part of the wave of sonic experimenters who included Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, Spectrum and Spiritualized. Part of the British shoegazing movement given impetus by the JESUS AND MARY CHAIN and spearheaded by MYBLOODY VALENTINE, the TELESCOPES' sound borrowed from those two bands while adding their own garage punk flavor, experimenting with violins, trumpets, and dynamic contrasts. The vinyl version includes liner notes. Track listing : I Fall SheScreams / There Is No Floor / Threadbare / Anticipating Nowhere / Please Before You Go / Silent Water / Everso / Never Learn Not to Love / Celeste / Flying / The Sleepwalk.

3 - TELESCOPES, THE - AS LIGHT RETURNS - (CD)
TAPETE

After thirty years of pursuing his singular artistic vision, Stephen Lawrie is more focussed than ever. "I found myself in a position in the early 90s where the main concern everyone around me had was whether or not the next song I wrote was a hit. Looking back now its obvious The Telescopes were never going to be that kind of a deal, but at the time it was a severe distraction that took a long while to shake off. I have learned more about keeping sight of the things that inspired me to create in the first place and not to compromise them in any way."These songs pay no heed to conventionalities. This music has an implicit power. The listener is free to enter a vast sonic universe and determine a personal set of coordinates. "For things to change for the better around us we first have to change them for the better from within."As Light Return - from the harrowing void.

4 - TELESCOPES, THE - AS LIGHT RETURNS - (L+C)
TAPETE

Evolving oscillations of guitar feedback screech and howl through thick layers of distortion. Overtones shift and drift and combine on a carpet of white noise. In the eye of the storm, the voice of Stephen Lawrie remains calm, almost detached. He intones a low, trance-like chant. The vocal is buried deep in the mix, the lyrics just barely discernible. "My specific intention is always to create a listening experience reaching beyond the realm of natural vision. I see duality and multiple meaning everywhere, this is reflected in the way my inspiration is formed, of impressions released in such a way where the meaning is subjective to the listener." After thirty years of pursuing his singular artistic vision, Stephen Lawrie is more focussed than ever. "I found myself in a position in the early 90s where the main concern everyone around me had was whether or not the next song I wrote was a hit. 5 - TELESCOPES, THE - HIDDEN FIELDS - (CD)
TAPETE

Founded in 1987 by Stephen Lawrie. The Telescopes have been mining a unique anti-myopian seam of highly influential experimental, drone, noise, dream & psych for over 20 years.Their first record was a split flex-disc with Loop on Cheree Records. After a further two critically acclaimed singles for the label, they moved to What Goes On Records, where they released another two EPs and their debut album "Taste". All of which found their way to the top of the UK independent charts, gathering single of the week / album of the month status in all of the British music papers of the time. Tours followed with Spacemen 3, Primal Scream and The Jesus and Mary Chain. And it wasnt long before The Telescopes were headliners themselves. Bark Psychosis, Whipping Boy, Slowdive, Bleach, The Cranes and Ride all played some of their earlier shows supporting them. In 1990 the group appeared at one of the UKs biggest festivals of the time, The Reading Festival. They were one of the few bands that werent bottled off the stage at the event. However, the increasing violent interactions with audiences at their shows saw the group step away from their noise origins and head towards a more introspective psychedelic sound. It was around this time that What Goes On folded and Alan McGee stepped in to release the group's material from the hands of official receivership.

8 - TELESCOPES, THE - THE TELECOPES - (LP)
RADIATION

Formed in 1987 these British shoegaze/space-rock mainstays drew inspiration from the 60s psych and rock scene, particularly The Velvets, The 13th Floor Elevators, Love, and The Byrds, as well as contemporaries such as My Bloody Valentine, and The Jesus & Mary Chain. Their second LP, a self-titled affair from 1992 originally released on Creation is where they truly took off and found their original voice with a tight batch of hook-laden tunes. An essential piece of UK shoegaze and psychedelia, The Telescopes is back in print on vinyl for the first time in nearly a decade.

9 - TELESCOPES, THE - UNTITLED SECOND - (CD)
BOMP!

The Telescopes were among the most innovative and challenging yet successful artists in Creation Records' "middle period", a leading part of the wave of sonic experimenters who included Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, Spectrum and Spiritualized. Towards the end of their time with Creation, they made their most fully realized album yet, "#", which for reasons too obscure to go into here, was barely released, and barely promoted. A bit of a tragedy really, it's hard to believelistening to this album that it is not an acknowledged classic yet. "The songs are built on acoustic guitars, then the tricked-out electric guitars are laid on top and garnished with bongos, organs, pianos, and all sorts of classic instruments.Stephen Lawrie's vocals are restrained and semi-emotional and female backing vocals add a touch of sweetness that might otherwise be missing from the record, as the overall atmosphere is very moody and introspective. with 4 bonus tracks :
