2 - APOSTLES, THE
- PUNK OBITUARY - (LP)
The Apostles were formed in 1979 in the Islington area, London by Bill Corbet, Julian Portinari, Dan McIntrye and Pete Byng-Hall. With this line-up the band didnt play any gig, the band were featured in diverse fanzines as Paroxysm fear and New crimes. In summer 1981 Andy Martin joined them as vocalist and played their first gig in September 1981 and recorded their first demo, "The Apostles". With the addition of Martin, the band started to work something out from the anarco-punk scene, more into mixing diverse sounds as industrial, English folk, some gospel and avant-garde stuff. In 1982 all the bands members left except Andy Martin who called some friends from other bands as Political Asylum or Innocent Bystander to continue with the bands work. With this new line up the band recorded 4 7" and 7 12" LPs between 1984 and 1990. "Punk obituary" was originally released by the great Motorhate label, ran by the English band Conflict. This album is to anarco-punk what "London calling" was for the mainstream punk, a total seminal record that helped to create a new sound and style. Also the lyrics turned from anarcho-punk themes to more personal and intellectual ones. A total absolute must a have record for sure!
