Four years later Dee Clark launched a solo career and scored hits with Just Keep It Up (which duly became his debut UK hit) and Hey Little Girl, both of which are featured on this album.

2 - CLARK, DEE - HOW ABOUT THAT - (LP)
RUMBLE

Chicago's Dee Clark had himself a hell of a run in the late '50s/early '60s, scoring a handful of Top 10 R&B chart hits, including the immortal title track of 'How About That'. Though he would continue recording for another 30 years, until his untimely death in 1990 at the age of 52, Dee Clark would never again reach the heights he did on this album. This is late '50s pop-R&B of the highest order!

Billboard Magazine described Dees 1960 single, "Youre Looking Good" as: "Heres a smart outing for the swinging cat." what more do we need to say! Our closing track, "Lucky Me" from 1961, hails back to an earlier sound, complete with Clyde McPhatter vocals. 4 - CLARK, DEE - ROCK'N'ROLL - (7")
VEE-TONE

This limited edition extended play 45 (only 500 worldwide), is a must have addition to any Rock n Roll / Rhythm & Blues vinyl collection. This stunning EP comes with a quality high gloss outer sleeve, and paper inner sleeve for additional vinyl protection (shrink wrapped). These early Dee Clark gems from 1956 - 1958 showcase his amazing vocal versatility, with his ability to switch from out and out Rock n Roll screamers, to beautiful R&B Vocal Group ballads. "24 Boyfriends (Falcon 1005)" is a frantic Little Richard styled rocker, complete with screaming vocals, and wailing sax. "Kangaroo Hop (Falcon 1002)" is another up-tempo Kool Gents "dance craze" recording, hailing from their last recording session of February 1957, surprisingly the 45 credits only Dee Clark. "Oh Little Girl (Falcon 1009)" is another fine Little Richard styled rocker, backed by the superb Upsetters (Little Richards band). Our closing track, is the stunning R&B Vocal Group ballad, "I Just Can't Help Myself (Vee Jay VJ 207)", another Kool Gents cut featuring Dee Clark on fine lead vocals (sounding exceedingly Clyde McPhatterish. and why the hell not?). If youve enjoyed this EP, check out our second instalment titled: Dee Clark Rhythm & Blues EP VTREP303, taking us into the early 1960s, his most commercially successful, all be it brief period.
