1 - CASH, JOHNNY - 101 I WALK THE LINE - (CD)
AP MUSIC

Johnny Cash is the archetypal bad boy of Country Music. With his imposing figure and deep distinctive sound, he became one of the most influential leaders of not only Country Music, but music as a whole. After being discharged from the army in 1953, Cash sought the services of Sam Philips of Sun Studios who had shot to fame after producing a string of Elvis hits. With Philips guidance, Cash scored his first hit "Cry Cry Cry" in 1955, followed by a pair of Top 10 singles in "So Doggone Lonesome" and "Folsom Prison Blues." But true fame arrived in 1956, when Cash wrote and released "I Walk The Line," which catapulted to No. 1 and sold 2 million copies.

4 - CASH, JOHNNY - ALL ABOARD THE BLUE TRAIN - (CD)
HALLMARK

Under such circumstances you can be forgiven for thinking Sun was more concerned with quantity than quality, but the songs on All Aboard The Blue Train stand comparison with much of his later repertoire. That is probably because Johnny sounded at his best when singing about people, places and trains, and thosethree elements feature predominantly on this album. The stand out cut is undoubtedly Folsom Prison Blues, but his update on Wreck Of The Old 97, Hey Porter andRock Island Line are especially worthy of attention.

6 - CASH, JOHNNY - AMERICAN IV: THE MAN COMES AROUND - (LP)
AMERICAN

On first thought, the idea of the Man in Black recording such covers as "Bridge over Troubled Water," "Danny Boy," and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" might seem odd, even for an artist who's been able to put his personal stamp on just about everything. But American IV: The Man Comes Around, which also draws on Cash's original songs as well as those by Nine Inch Nails ("Hurt"), Sting ("I Hung My Head"), and Depeche Mode ("Personal Jesus"), may be one of the most autobiographical albums of the 70-year-old singer-songwriter's career. Nearly every tune seems chosen to afford the ailing giant of popular music a chance to reflect on his life, and look ahead to what's around the corner. From the opening track--Cash's own "The Man Comes Around," filled with frightening images of Armageddon--the album, produced by Rick Rubin, advances a quiet power and pathos, built around spare arrangements and unflinching honesty in performance and subject. In 15 songs, Cash moves through dark, haunted meditations on death and destruction, poignant farewells, testaments to everlasting love, and hopeful salutes to redemption. He sounds as if he means every word, his baritonebass, frequently frayed and ravaged, taking on a weary beauty. By the time he gets to the Beatles' "In My Life," you'll very nearly cry. Go ahead. He sounds as if he's about to, too. Unforgettable. --Alanna NashThis is the fourth in a series of collaborations between the original Man in Black, Johnny Cash, and producer Rick Rubin. The Man Comes Around features new Cash compositions as well as a diverse array of cover songs, including Nine Inch Nails "Hurt", Hank Williams "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", and Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". He duets with Don Henley on "Desperado".

TRACKLISTING: 01. The Man Comes Around 02. Hurt 03. Give My Love To Rose 04. Bridge Over Troubled Waters 05. I Hung My Head 06. First Time I Ever Saw Your Face 07. Personal Jesus DISC #2: 01. In My Life 02. Sam Hall 03. Danny Boy 04. Desperado 05. I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry 06. Tear Stained Letter 07. Streets Of Laredo 08. We'll Meet Again

7 - CASH, JOHNNY - AMERICAN RECORDINGS - (LP)
AMERICAN

In 1994 Cash stunned the music world with this commanding collection of 13 solo acoustic performances that roll from gospel to cowboy to sarcastic folk. Minimalism had long been Cash's meal ticket, but this time around, producer Rick Rubin stripped it all away, recording the bulk of the record in Cash's cabin or his own living room (two cuts were captured live at the Viper Room in front of an emphatic audience). Cash offers five typically direct and vivid originals, but he also seizes control of songs by Kris Kristofferson, Nick Lowe, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Loudon Wainwright. Forty years after "Hey Porter," Cash delivers a pure, naked, and incredibly moving record that, dare we say, rivals the impact of his greatest achievements. --Marc GreilsamerJohnny Cash had already recorded some of the most important Country albums in the history of the genre, yet, although he was still making quality music throughout the '80s, record sales and label support were the lowest he'd ever experienced in his entire career. By the early '90s, he was without a label for the first time in four decades. Longtime fan, label owner and producer Rick Rubin stepped in, asked Johnny to return to his roots and together, they recreated the legend of the Man In Black. Features Cash performing his own compositions as well as songs from Loudon Wainwright, Leonard Cohen, Nick Lowe, Tom Waits and Glenn Danzig. American Recordings earned Johnny a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. A stunning return to form.

14 - CASH, JOHNNY - BALLAD OF A TEENAGE QUEEN - (7")
SLEAZY

In this single you have the alternative version of SUN 283 for the first time in 7" format, Ballad Of A Teenage Queen with the overdubs, as it was recorded originally only with Johnny Cash' voice shack up with two acoustic guitars and double bass, resulting thereof in a good country bopper, more attractive than the version that was edited those days.On the B Side we have included an alternative recording of Big Rive, less crafted tan the original but with some changes in the orchestration that make it as interesting as the one we are used to.

17 - CASH, JOHNNY - BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS - (LP)
WAX LOVE

Like many of Johnny Cash's albums from the late 50s and early 60s, Blood, Sweat and Tears is a concept album. This time around, for his 15th long player, The Man in Black sings a suite of songs about the plight of the working man. Featuring The Carter Family on backing vocals and longtime guitarist Luther Perkins, this is a killer album that features two classics he'd later record on the legendary Folsom Prison sessions ("The Legend of John Henry's Hammer" and "Busted"). Another classic from Johnny Cash on Wax Love.

TRACKLISTING: 01. The Legend Of John Henry's Hammer 02. Tell Him I'm Gone 03. Another Man Done Gone 04. Busted 05. Casey Jones 06. Nine Pound Hammer 07. Chain Gang 08. Waiting For A Train 09. Roughneck

22 - CASH, JOHNNY - GREATEST! - (CD)
HALLMARK

Although Johnny Cash had departed Sun Records for Columbia in 1958, the tracks he had recorded for Sun continued to provide Sam Phillips with plenty of material for release. Whilst neither of his first two Sun albums had made a dent in the charts, they had performed sufficiently well enough to earn him a big money move to Columbia, who in turn had been rewarded when The Fabulous Johnny Cash lived up to its title and made the Top Twenty. In response Sam Phillips gathered together the six singles Johnny had released on the label and padded the album out with a further six tracks to produce the twelve track Greatest!

TRACKLISTING: 01. Goodbye Little Darlin 02. I Just Thought Youd Like To Know 03. You Tell Me 04. Just About Time 05. I Forgot To Remember To Forget 06. Katy, Too 07. Thanks A Lot 08. Luthers Boogie 09. You Win Again 10. Hey Good Lookin 11. I Could Never Be Ashamed Of You 12. Get Rhythm

25 - CASH, JOHNNY - LONGING FOR OLD VIRGINIA - (LP)
LETTHEMEATVINYL

The superb 1976 recordings on this deluxe vinyl release, taken from a performance on the Jamboree USA Radio Concert series, suggest that the old faithful had it right all along and Johnny Cash, far from having lost any of the old magic, was as vibrant and potent in this era as he ever was. With a little help from members of the legendary Carter Family - not least Johnnys wife and life partner June - he storms through a set of both oldies and more recent tunes to rapturous applause from a clearly delighted audience

27 - CASH, JOHNNY - LOUISIANA HAYRIDE RECORDINGS - (LP)
WAX LOVE

The late, great, man in black made appearances on the legendary radio and TV show broadcast out of Shreveport, LA in 1955, 1959, 1962, and 1963. This LP collects recordings from all of those performances. Though we all know and love his studio hits, Cash was often at his best in front of a live audience and his performances here leave no doubt about that. With stunning performances from his Tennessee Two, the loose, humorous vibe of these recordings highlight Cash's best side. Absolutely essential.
