1 - URLAUB IN POLEN - ALL - (CD)
TAPETE

Urlaub in Polen have also always been a band that defies categorization. All is probably their most formally coherent album so far, but it is nevertheless anything but a work of genre: What the songs on All have in common is an architecture evoking Krautrock, developing sprawling synthesizer and guitar workouts on the foundations of finely woven rhythm arrangements. The echoes of West Coast Pop (the harmonies and the bass!), of Rhineland Tech House and of early Dire Straits (the vocals and the guitar production!) make All a characteristically versatile and international affair. The album shares with their previous efforts the interest and attention for sonic textures and contrasts, but showcases more constraint and focus. In place of noise, details and the enormous joy of playing between Brenner and Janzen come to the fore, equally in the stoic Desert Kraut hits Impulse Response and THDT, the polyrhythmic Overall, or the discoid Proxy Music. All as a musical statement thus bears witness to the fact that Urlaub in Polens artistic vision is not centred by musical niche or content, but by formal considerations and the ever new presence of playing together: All, in this sense, stands for nothing more and nothing less than the latest expansion of their oeuvre.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Void 02. Impulse Response 03. 2 Sec. Delay 04. T.h.d.t 05. Rodeo 06. The Witcher 07. Overall 08. The Hunter 09. Lts 10. Proxy Music

3 - URLAUB IN POLEN - BOLDSTRIKER - (CD)
STRANGEWAYS

The Cologne-based electro-pop duos farewell album. Georg Brenner (also in Ken) and Philipp Janzen (Von Spar) are setting off on their final joint adventure after twelve years of working together. Nine soundscapes in which the ideas go truly overboard. They range from epically broad session scenarios such as "Oh Beo, Where Art Thou" to laconic space-bossa aphorisms in the title song. But despite well-meant detachment, a certain melancholy shines through in some of the lyrics: "The light is not born to stay, all returning into the night".

TRACKLISTING: 01. Lore-ley 1 02. Oh Beo, Where Are Thou? 03. Boldstriker 04. 6000ft Beyond Man And Time 05. Snowwhite 06. The Velvet Blues(ext. Version) 07. Under Liquid 08. Rebel And Waste 09. Lore-ley 2

4 - URLAUB IN POLEN - LIQUID - (CD)
STRANGEWAYS

The Cologne duo's brilliant fourth album. The band with the nice name of Urlaub in Polen (Vacation in Poland) has consisted of George Brenner (also a member of Ken) and Jan Philipp Janzen (Von Spar) since 1999 - two talented musicians with DIY consciousness as well as brilliant songs; a post-whatever band that makes the stage vibrate like Spaceman 3 once did. Meanwhile, in the studio they dont just take advantage of all the technical possibilities, they also make their ideas comply to them. Drummer Janzen reminds one of some of the old krautrock rhythm sections while Brenner's vocals show us what Mark Knopfler would have sounded like in a good band. Even those who are familiar with the previous Urlaub in Poland albums will be surprised by "Liquid", the duos fourth work. Because it is all inclusive of the things one expects from Urlaub in Polen: vocoder vocals, bits of jazz, adventure fanfare, powerpop synthesizers, powerful techno (amplified!) and rock hymns. And "Defender of the Crown" is even a real hit. Its as if Phil Spector produced Blind Idiot God. No kidding!
