121 - SATURDAY KNIGHTS, THE - THE SATURDAY KNIGHTS EP - (CD)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

The Saturday Knights are a culmination of three freaks, a jaw-jacking combination of performing personalities: Storyteller and entertainer Tilson, who can tickle any lady's funny bone; low-income yarn spinner and urban graffiti poet Barfly; and pumped up by the big beats and psychedelic turntable-art of DJ Suspence. Seattle's punk rock-power pop band with hip-hop songs'

122 - SCOTT, TIGER JOANIE - BABY I NEED YOUR LOVIN'/KANSAS CITY - (7")
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

Record Store Day Exclusive Release. Limited to 500 copies worldwide.Reality TV comes in many shapes and forms. Far from the wannabe hordes of American Idol and America's Got Talent, miles from the travails of the fame-hungry Kardashian clan, AMC's Small Town Security traced the fortunes (and misfortunes) of JJK Security, a family-owned firm in Ringgold, Georgia.Produced by the makers of This American Life, it aired after Breaking Bad in the summer of 2012 and won a small but loyal audience across two seasons. Though it had little in common with the TV singing competitions, Small Town Security showed that Ringgold has talent, too. Joan Koplan, matriarch and head of JJK, is an actress, singer, and public access TV host. In fact, she claims, her route to stardom was only cut short when she turned down Farah Fawcett's role in the camp 1970 movie, Myra Breckinridge.A cigar smoking, hard talking, wisecracking woman with smudged eyeliner and bright red lipstick, Koplan was an instant hit with fans of the show and an immediate subject of "why-we-love" listicles on the net. In the spirit of her finding well-deserved fame later in life, this special limited edition 7" single offers Koplan a shot at recognition for the songs she recorded as Tiger Joanie Scott, in the 60s - all of which remained unreleased until an old acetate was discovered in Koplans attic.Featuring a cover of The Four Tops' "Baby I Need Your Lovin" on the A-side and "Kansas City"-which fans will remember from Small Town Security's pilot episode- on the flip, these unreleased tracks were recorded when Koplan-then a Scott-was just 14, even if her voice sounds more mature than her years.Whether you're missing the show and your weekly fix of Joan or whether you just love classic '60s pop, this special release for Record Store Day packs as much charm as Koplan herself.

123 - SHAGGS, THE - PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD - (LP)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

Light in the Attic reissues their impossible to find 1969 album, originally out on Third World Recordings !In 1968, three sisters from Fremont, New Hampshire strapped on their instruments and declared themselves The Shaggs. At that moment begun a peculiar tale that would last far beyond the groups five-year run. Dot, Betty and Helen (and occasionally Rachel, the fourth sister) played in the group on the insistence of their father, Austin Wiggin Jr., who was convinced they were going to be big. Years earlier, Austins mother gave him a palm reading, predicting that her son would marry a strawberry blonde woman, that he would have two sons after his mother died, and that his daughters would form a popular music outfit. The first two became reality, so Austin was certain the third would follow suit.Nearly 50 years later, the album ranks among the most polarizing LPs of all time. Some said it was the worst thing ever made. Others felt it was one of the great long players of the 20th century. Frank Zappa famously dubbed the band "better than The Beatles", while Kurt Cobain placed the album at #5 on his list of Top 50 favorite albums. Original copies of the album fetch for $10,000.

125 - SIMMONS, SYLVIE - SYLVIE - (CD)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

Light In The Attic has an impeccable reputation for uncovering rare and precious albums from the past. "Sylvie" is haunting and out-of-time-but it is also a brand-new, original debut album, by a singer-writer who has been making music since she was a little girl but just for herself. Like Devendra Banhart says, Sylvie is "a gem of an album, fragile and fearless, direct and poetic, timeless and absolutely beautiful. Like Rosalie Sorrels meets the Only Ones." Or Isobel Campbell on a lost desert night, maybe, with only the moon and a ukulele for company.

128 - STONE, SLY - I'M JUST LIKE YOU: SLY'S STONE FLOWER 1969-70 - (CD)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

Massive!! A collection of 7"s from the obscure Stone Flower label catalogue, along with unreleased! Sly Stone (produced) work, available again on this doublepack. 134 - VALLE, MARCOS - PREVISAO DO TEMPO - (LP)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

Previsao Do Tempo was originally released in 1973 and quickly became a favorite of Valle disciples. Still committed to political/cultural criticism through his music, Marcos was reaching a plateau in terms of sound and vision (Previsao Do Tempo sports an arresting sleeve shot of Marcos underwater and also features contributions from Waltel Branco and O Tero). Any way you spin it, Light In The Attic is proud to present Previsao Do Tempo as part of our four-album Marcos Valle reissue campaign. Consisting of an ambitious string of early 1970s landmark studio sessions (sympathetic in spirit to Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gayes game changing work from the same era) and released on CD and LP, Previsao Do Tempo features extensive liner notes by San Francisco-based writer Allen Thayer (Wax Poetics) with exclusive interview content and song-by-song breakdown from Marcos himself. Fans new and old will finally have easy breezy access to these once hard-to-find Brazilian classics. Powered by the jazzy electronic feel of Azimuth (thought by some to be Brazils finest musical combo), Previsao Do Tempo is a highlight in the Valle discography and a welcome addition to any South American friendly record collection and sits proudly with the best of Brazil. File after Os Mutantes and before Caetano Veloso.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Flamengo Ate Morrer 02. Nem Paleto, Nem Gravat 03. Tira A Mao 04. Mentira 05. Previsao Do Tempo 06. Mais Do Que Valsa 07. Os Ossos Do Barao 08. Nao Tem Nada Nao 09. Nao Tem Nada Nao (ii) 10. Samba Fatal 11. Tiu-ba-la-quieba 12. De Repente, Moca Flor

137 - VARIOUS - COUNTRY FUNK 1969-1975 - (LP)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

What in the hell is country funk you ask? The answer is a complicated one, in part due to the fact that Country Funk is an inherently defiant genre, escaping all efforts at easy categorization. The style encompasses the elation of gospel with the sexual thrust of the blues, country hoedown harmony with inner city grit. It is alternately playful and melancholic, slow jammin, and booty shakin. It is both studio slick and barroom raw. And while these all may seem unlikely combinations at first glance, upon close listen, it all makes sweet sense. Country Funk 1969-1975 is a melting pot concoction of the music of Dale Hawkins, John Randolph Marr, Cherokee, Johnny Adams, Mac Davis, Bob Darin, Jim Ford, Gray Fox, Link Wray, Bobby Charles, Tony Joe White, Dennis The Fox, Larry Jon Wilson, Bobbie Gentry, Gritz, and Johnny Jenkins.Featuring extensive liner notes by Jessica Hundley (MOJO, The New York Times, Vogue), original album/label artwork, and new illustrations by Jess Rotter (JessRotter.com, Rotter & Friends.

TRACKLISTING: 01. L.a. Memphis Tyler Texas - Dale Hawkins 02. Hello L.a., Bye-bye Birmingham - John Randolph Marr 03. Georgia Morning Dew - Johnny Adams 04. Lucas Was A Redneck - Mac Davis 05. Light Blue - Bob Darin 06. Hawg Frog - Gray Fox 07. Fire And Brimstone - Link Wray 08. Street People - Bobby Charles 09. Funky Business - Cherokee 10. Stud Spider - Tony Joe White 11. Piledriver - Dennis The Fox 12. Ohoopee River Bottomland - Larry Jon Wilson 13. He Made A Woman Out Of Me - Bobbie Gentry 14. Bayou Country - Gritz 15. I Walk On Gilded Splinters - Johnny Jenkins

138 - VARIOUS - COUNTRY FUNK II 1967-1974 - (CD)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

Volume II of Light In The Attic's Country Funk collection. Features cuts by Bob Darin, Thomas Jefferson Kaye, Willie Nelson and more and also includes comic with story by Jessica Hundley along with Jess Rotters illustrations. Nice!In 2012, Country Funk 1969-1975 (Volume I) gathered together songs from a genre with no name. Its a genre created not from geography or shared ideology but a term applied retrospectively based solely on the feel of the songs: hip-swinging rhythms with bourbon on the breath. These were songs to make your cowboy boots itchy, written and performed by the likes of Bobbie Gentry, Johnny Jenkins and Link Wray. Songs that encompass the elation of gospel with the sexual thrust of the blues; country hoedown harmonies cut with inner city grit. Compiled from tracks dating from the late 60s to the mid 70s, Country Funk is the sound of country music blending with sounds and scenes from coast to coast, white Americas heartland music blending with the melting pot as the nation assessed its identity in advance of its bicentennial year.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Billy Swan - Don't Be Cruel 02. Bob Darin - Me And Mr. Hohner 03. Hoyt Axton - California Women 04. Townes Van Zandt - Hunger Child Blues 05. Thomas Jefferson Kaye - Collection Box 06. Willie Nelson - Shotgun Willie 07. Jackie Deshannon - The Weight 08. Gene Clark & Doug Dillard - Don't Let Me Down 09. Bill Wilson - Pay Day Give Away 10. Dolly Parton - Getting Happy 11. Larry Williams & Johnny Watson With The Kaleidoscope - Nobody 12. Jim Ford - Rising Sign 13. Jj Cale - Cajun Moon 14. Donnie Fritts - Sumpin Funky Going On 15. Kenny Rogers & The First Edition - Tulsa Turnaround 16. Great Speckled Bird - Long Long Time To Get Old 17. Willis Alan Ramsey - Northeast Texas Women

Compiled from tracks dating from the late 60s to the mid 70s, Country Funk is the sound of country music blending with sounds and scenes from coast to coast, white Americas heartland music blending with the melting pot as the nation assessed its identity in advance of its bicentennial year.

140 - VARIOUS - EVEN A TREE CAN SHED TEARS - (LP)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

'JAPANESE FOLK & ROCK 1969-1973' - This DOUBLE-LP compilation presents a wide range of artists that were influential in the Japanese rock and folk underground during the years 1969-1973, but are virtually unknown in the rest of the world. Included are a.o. Hachimitsu Pie with its The Band-like ragged Americana, Tetsuo Saito with his spacey folk, and the Happy End, a band that successfully combined American West Coast-vibes with Japanese lyrics. Also featured are tracks from more political oriented artists s.a. Takashi Nishioka and his progressive folk collective Itsutsu No Akai Fuusen, the "Japanese Joni Mitchell" Sachiko Kanenobu, and The Dylan II. And to top things off you may expect the bluesy avant-garde stylings of Maki Asakawa, future Sadistic Mika Band founder Kazuhiko Kato with his fuzzy, progressive psychedelia, the beatnik acid folk of Masato Minami, and the intimate living room folk of Kenji Endo.

142 - VARIOUS - I AM THE CENTER (BOX) - (LP)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

Forget everything you know, or think you know, about new age, a genre that has become one of the defining musical-archaeological explorations of the past decade. I Am The Center: Private Issue New Age In America, 1950-1990 is the first major anthology to survey the golden age of new age and reveal the unbelievable truth about the genre. For new age, at its best, is a reverberation of psychedelic music, and great by any standard. This is analog, handmade music communicating soul and spirit, often done on limited means and without commercial potential, self-published and self-distributed. Before it became big business and devolved into the spaced out elevator music we know and loathe today, this was the real thing. From mathematical musical algorithms to airport murder mysteries to Henry Mancini and Bugs Bunny, the connections to mainstream culture run in curious directions. (Did you know, for instance, that a track from the first modern private press new age album is featured on the Blade Runner soundtrack? Its called "Pompeii, 76 A.D.", and weve got it here.)

TRACKLISTING: 01. The Struggle Of The Magicians Part Three - Gurdjieff / De Hartmann 02. Pompeii 76 A.d. - Gail Laughton 03. Gongs In The Rain - Nesta Kerin Crain 04. Witch's Will - Wilburn Burchette 05. Iasos - Formentera Sunset Clouds 06. Seventh Chakra Keynote B (violet) - Steven Halpern 07. Seraphic Borealis - Joel Andrews 08. Om Mani Padme Hum - Constance Demby 09. Arabian Fantasy - Daniel Emmanuel 10. Awakening (excerpt) - Don Slepian 11. Unicorns In Paradise (excerpt) - Laraaji 12. Glide V - Peter Davison 13. Lifting Off - Joanna Brouk 14. As The Earth Kissed The Moon (excerpt) - Michael Stearns 15. Tien Fu: Heaven's Gate (excerpt) - Aeoliah 16. Blue Spirals - Daniel Kobialka 17. Two Souls Dance - Larkin 18. Li Sun - Judith Tripp 19. Lunar Eclipse (excerpt) - Mark Banning 20. Waterfall Winds - Alice Damon

144 - VARIOUS - LISTEN, WHITEY! - (LP)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

The Definitive Black Power Aural Document !Over a five year period in Oakland, CA - archivist Pat Thomas befriended key leaders of the seminal Black Power Movement, dug through Huey Newtons archives at Stanford University, spent countless hours and thousands of dollars on eBay, and talked to rank and file Black Panther Party members, uncovering dozens of obscure albums, singles, and stray tapes. Along the way, he began to piece together a time period (1967-1974) when revolutionaries were seen as pop culture icons: Bobby Seale, Eldridge Cleaver, Angela Davis, Stokely Carmichael - and musicians were seen as revolutionaries; Gil Scott-Heron, The Last Poets, Bob Dylan, John Lennon and others. As a result, Thomas wrote a 70,000-word hardcover book entitled Listen, Whitey! The Sounds of Black Power - to be published by Fantagraphics in early 2012 - which also includes some 200 full color images of obscure recordings that encompass rock, soul, jazz, comedy, poetry, and even religious sermons blended with Black Nationalism. Light In The Attic Records presents the companion soundtrack to the book. For the time first ever, Black and White artists share space on a definitive anthology of the Black Power era

145 - VARIOUS - MICROCOSM: VISIONARY MUSIC OF CONTINENTAL EUROPE - (CD)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

After three years in the making, the followup to Light In The Attics game-changing I Am The Center box set is finally here. The Microcosm: Visionary Music Of Continental Europe, 1970-1986 is the first major overview of key works from cosmically-taped in artists needing little introduction - Vangelis, Ash Ra Tempel, and Popol Vuh - and unknown masterpieces by criminally overlooked heroes like Bernard Xolotl, Robert Julian Horky and Enno Velthuys. Whereas I Am The Center called for a reconsideration of an entire maligned genre, The Microcosm requests nothing more than an open mind to consider this ambient, new age, neuzeit, prog, krautrock, cosmic, holistic stuff, whatever one calls it - as a pulsating movement unto itself, a mirror refracting the American new age scene in unexpected, electrifying ways, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt the universality of the timeless quest to express "the Ineffable" through music.Drawing from major label budgets and homemade cassette distributed circumstances alike, The Microcosmdemonstrates a depth of peace profound to behold, and clearly expands the boundaries. Lovingly conceived and lavishly presented by producer Douglas Mcgowan (Yoga Records) and liner notes contributor Jason Patrick Woodbury (Pitchfork, Aquarium Drunkard), The Microcosm features stunning cover paintings by tienne Trouvelot, and labels by Finnish savant Aleksanda Ionowa.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Vangelis - Creation Du Monde 02. Ralph Lundsten - Bon 03. Forlat Oss Vara Skulder (prayer 5 - Forgive Us Our Debts) 04. Popol Vuh - Brueder Des Schattens - Soehne Des Lichts (abridged) 05. Ariel Kalma - Orguitar Soir 06. Bernard Xolotl - Cometary Wailing (valley Plateau 07. Peter Michael Hamel - Einklang 08. Francesco Messina - Untitled 09. Roedelius - Wenn Der Suedwind Weh 10. Deutsche Wertarbeit - Der Grosse Atem 11. Robert Julian Horky - Dance For A Warrio 12. Karl Schaffner & Lothar Grimm - Carava 13. Suzanne Doucet & Christian Buehner - Shivas Dance 14. Enno Velthuys - Morning Glory 15. Deuter - Spirales 16. Gigi Masin - Ship Beetel

148 - VARIOUS - THIS RECORD BELONGS TO _______ - (CD)
LIGHT I/T ATTIC

Hold onto your boots. its here! This Record Belongs To______ is the antidote to your standard kids compilations. You wont find boy bands, princesses, or purple dinosaurs here. Instead the record consists of two halves-an upbeat side for daytime dancin and a mellow side for bedtime lullabies. Among the many gems featured include songs from Carole King, Woody Guthrie, Donovan, Harry Nilsson, Jerry Garcia, Nina Simone, Kermit The Frog and more.Inspired by the classic Little Golden Books Series and Sesame Streets In Harmony albums, This Record Belongs To ______ stems from a love of music, reading, and a passion for teaching future generations the interactive experience of holding an album in your hands, putting needle to groove, and immersing yourself in the pages of a records sleeve as the music plays. The compilation was compiled and sequenced by DJ and friend, Zach Cowie, who is as dear to our hearts as this collection of songs (previously passed around as a gift between friends) and is the soundtrack for many LITA & TMR offspring. These kiddos now all have undeniably excellent taste in tunes. The record is accompanied by an original, full-color storybook illustrated by acclaimed artist, Jess Rotter, which tells the tale of five forest pals who find a mysterious object-a round, flat disc that they proceed to investigate. The animal friends finally solve the mystery and learn how to play a record and let their bodies move to the groove (within the grooves).
