391 - VARIOUS - BEAT FRAULEINS - (CD)
BUREAU B

Following two "Funky Frauleins" compilations (2009 and 2011), the time has come for the BEAT FRAULEINS. Back we go, deep into the sixties, when the beat forced its way into the innocent world of German schlager. When the rhythm grew hotter and the lyrics sharper, the drums louder and the guitar more distorted. BEAT FRAULEINS brings together 19 highlights of the era.

BUREAU B

Female beat, groove, funk from Germany 1968-1981. Uschi Moser/Sunny Honey: Wild beat from the raunchy flick "Atemlosvor Liebe / Yearning For Love". PG rated nevertheless.Veronika Fischer/He, wir fahrn mit dem Zug: A homage to therailways (and Mitropa) in finest GDR groove!Fasia/Arbeitslosen-Blues: Industrial action was never so much fun! "Give us a job!" is Fasias rallying cry, underpinned by a thumping groove.Joy Fleming/Fieber: The musics cool, the lyrics grotesque. Were not talking fever of love here, but grandad pulling a sickie. Oof!Uschi Glas/Mein Wochenende: Lets get straight to it honey, withmusic by Peter Thomas. Sweet and as good as gold. Typical UschiGlas.Uschi Britsnacht: A slick hymn to the night of nights, oscillating between Barry White and Burt Bacharach.Heidelinde Weis/Der Supermann: The Austrian actress pokes fun at machos. Lascivious and funky!Caterina Valente/I Dig Rock and Roll Music: A hit for Peter, Paul & Mary, this is a beat version, intimately arranged by Heinz Kiessling.Hildegard Knef/Gern Bereit: Hildes nonchalantly grooving homage to Cole Porter, who took it to Broadway back in 1954.Su Kramer/Weisser Sand: What a smash! The "blackest white voice in Germany" accompanied by a generously extended drum break.Inga Rumpf (& Peter Herbolzheimer)/Superstition: THE voice ofGerman blues rock has a stab at funk. Supertight!Peggy March/Die Entdeckung des Jahrhunderts: Super snappy beatwith universal weapon of a drummer Christian Bruhn setting the scene.Lill Lindfors/Harper Valley: Country evergreen, presented by the Finnish vocalist Lill Lindfors, with Mr James Last himself bringing the funk to the party.Angelika Mann/Kutte: Marital drama about an alcoholic, tightlywrapped in fusion funk, made in the GDR.Li Monty/Funky Bone: Dust-dry funk composed by Hammond jazzgroove specialist Dieter Reith. An absolute rarity!Anne Haigis/Fingernails: Germanys smokiest vocals (and hairdo to match) of the 1980s with textbook jazz funk.Donna Gaines/Cant Understand: Psychedelic, hypnotic beat rarityfrom Donna Summers fledgling days.

402 - VARIOUS - MAGNETBAND - (CD)
BUREAU B

EXPERIMENTELLER ELEKTRONIK-UNDERGROUND DDR 1984-1989.Inspired by Punk and Post Punk, vibrant scenes dedicated to independent self-actualisation by means of sound circulated on self-distributed cassettes, then the cheapest and fastest medium, were developing on each side of the Cold War's confrontational line. Albeit under quite different circumstances. While there was a DIY euphoria in the West, which would also have had ideological motives, subcultures in the East simply had no other means at their disposal. Even the first act of replication meant moving into illegal territory, since every duplication was strictly sanctioned and had to be authorised by state authorities. Just like anything else, whether in print or where live shows were concerned. The protagonists - musicians, painters, poets, filmmakers, performers. (often all at once) - were openly and unbiased crossing genres and jumping back and forth between various styles, having already taken their internal leave from state and society as they had done externally anyway. Disillusioned, and often ready to jump towards the West, these border crossers defined themselves rather somewhere between non- and anti-political, pursuing self-actualisation strategies by means of an extended niche existence. They took refuge in the search for ways of creative self-assertion and communication, looking out in sensual despair, utilising sounds of rage, linguistic wit and a passion for tinkering. Driven by ubiquitous boredom, equipped with plenty of time and free of economic restraints (or rather possibilities), labour was performed with no regard to the final product, hardly documented and almost never published. With the partial opening of state controlled media and cultural sites accompanying the beginning agony of the State, conditions changed. Suddenly there was radio airplay of supposedly illegal cassettes, and weird noise performed at Palast der Republik, in the end, even full albums by these so-called "other bands" were released on the state-owned label AMIGA. The collapse following soon after relieved the activists remaining in the country of the quandary of continually having to re-position themselves. Many took different roads, some leading to Rammstein, others to Raster-Noton or groups like To Rococo Rot and Tarwater.

405 - VARIOUS - SAMMLUNG - (CD)
BUREAU B

ELEKTRONISCHE KASSETTENMUSIK DUESSELDORF 1982-1989. Unadorned post-war apartment houses dominated the views of the city, which strangely was experienced as "elegant" by the flaneurs on the Koenigsallee. The muted, bureaucratic cement slabs, the "art bunker" otherwise known as the Kunsthalle, not far from the Ratinger Strasse with its punk history, and the brutally futuristic elevated railway called "The Millipede" stood out in a powerful gray. This was Duesseldorf in the early 1980s.Yet reconstruction was in full swing. The bank buildings on the "Koe" received postmodern interiors. The old town became stylishly retro-rustic and advertising agencies displaced the last industrial companies in the harbor. And the music? It took all of this on. Punk was finished, but its pathos still drifted desolately through pubs and shared flats. At the same time, synthesizers had become increasingly affordable due to digital electronics, allowing more and more people to make music. This music pushed ahead slightly in order to dock onto the electronic sounds of the 1970s Krautrock scene - no one called it "cosmic music" back in those days. But most chose the detour via records by Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Eric Random, Human League or the more unfamiliar experimental sounds gathered on a somewhat morbid-looking compilation entitled "The Elephant Table Album".

TRACKLISTING: 01. Konrad Kraft - F 02. Deux Balaines Blanches - Draht 8 03. Ettlinger - Bzw 04. Mentocome - B6 05. Frigorex -the Beginning 06. Dino Oon - Nr. 6 07. Pfad Der Tugend - Einklang 08. Kurzschluss - L'inconnu 09. Wooden Barrows - Zyklus Vi 10. Le Petit Mort -geheimes Wissen 11. Strafe Fuer Rebellion -boston 12. Maria Zerfall - Wohin 13. Add - Doerper's Dream

407 - VONO - DINNER FUER 2 - (CD)
BUREAU B

Among the lesser known dark-electro/post-punk bands of the early 1980s, the Berlin duo VONO really stood out. The radical nature of their music, the cold sound and sparse lyrics - VONO were arguably on a par with the more prominent ambassadors of the genres (DAF, Liaisons Dangereuses etc). Extreme even for the early eighties, their minimalism was constructed purely on synthesizers and heavy on bass. With lyrics to match, their debut album "Dinner fuer 2" was unique.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Dinner Fuer 2 02. Tanzstunde 03. Im Schein Des Neon 04. Lottozahlen 05. Lover Werner 06. Mit Mir Zum Siege 07. Mauertanz 1 08. Bitte Wenden 09. Tief Im Dschungel 10. Hirnregister 11. Der Zauberer 12. Nimm Alles Mit 13. Leben In Irland 14. Mauertanz 2 15. Hitze

410 - WILDE JAGD, DIE - DIE WILDE JAGD - (CD)
BUREAU B

Music from the "Rauhnaechte" - DIE WILDE JAGD go hunting in the thicket of Neo-Krautrock, Electronica and Synthpop Every year anew, during the Rauhnaechte (those harsh nights between Christmas and Twelfth Day), the Wild Hunt (Die Wilde Jagd) rides across the country: raucous, jeering hunters from the nether world, whose path it is better not to cross. This is an ancient Germanic myth, which, in slightly varied form, is known in many parts of Europe and whose name Ralf Beck and Sebastian Lee Philipp have aptly chosen for their new project. The two first met in 2006 in Duesseldorfs Salon des Amateurs, a meeting place for new and established experimental musicians and artists, also known as Germanys "postpunk Hacienda". It seems no coincidence that Duesseldorf is the duos founding city: their music is full of subtle references to local acts, such as Kraftwerk, NEU!, DAF, Liaisons Dangereuses, Pyrolator, the Krupps and Propaganda.

TRACKLISTING: 01. Wah Wah Wallenstein (7:46) 02. Austerlitz (7:24) 03. Torpedovogel (3:59) 04. Durch Dunkle Tannen (4:56) 05. Der Elektrische Reiter (6:45) 06. Morgenrot (6:27) 07. Jagd Auf Den Hirsch (7:25) 08. Der Meister (4:18)
